Publisher's summary

Best-selling author Nora Roberts dazzles once again with a powerful tale of passion, murder, and small-town scandal. In this classic novel, a woman returns to the home she left behind, to a past that is waiting to kill her....

A decade ago, sculptor Clare Kimball fled Emmitsboro, Maryland, to take the art world by storm. Now she’s celebrated as the artist of her generation. But no amount of success can eclipse the nightmares that haunt her - or the memories of her father’s suicide. Just as her star is shining brighter than ever, Clare leaves it all behind to face her demons.

Emmitsboro sheriff Cameron Rafferty loved Clare from afar all through high school. Now that she’s back, they form a bond that grows stronger each day - fueled by an attraction that’s been simmering for years. But Clare’s past soon rises up with a vengeance, rocking the town with a sinister murder that is clearly linked to her return.

As an investigation gets under way, Clare and Cameron will learn that evil can linger anywhere - even in those you love and trust the most. But it’s a discovery that may come too late to save them....

This is one of my favorite books!

Boy am I glad to see Nora Roberts at Audible! She is an excellent author and this is one of my favorite books! Divine Evil is the first non-category romantic suspense novel that Nora Roberts wrote! It has great characters, a twistly plot line, some wonderful romance, and some nightmares, too. And, you will not figure out whose behind all the problems in that little town! Wonderful book! I highly recommend it!

Too Creepy

Nora Roberts has such a WIDE range of stories. I've loved so many of her titles, and wish Audible would pick up ones like Northern Lights, Angels Falls or Blue Smoke. Divine Evil was just too creepy for me to take. Couldn't get past the satanist stuff. The fact that I actually believe evil people exist in this world took me too far into the realm of reality, and let's face it, I read Nora Roberts to ESCAPE reality! If you're like that...skip this one.

Enjoyed It

Another good book from Nora Roberts. I've just read a few of her books and wanted to hear this one since it was not a romance. Contains lots of action, interesting characters, and a good story. Excellent reader.

fantastic

This book was great, I could listen to it again, it kept you on the edge and new angles all the time. Hard to stop the engine to my truck to stop listening.

Hard to put down

I have always been a Nora Roberts fan, she's a fantastic author and once again she did not fail to entertain me. In fact, I was disappointed it was over!
Some of the characters were a bit flimsy, a little too stero-typical. Also, of the "bad" guys, some were quite easy to just pinpoint from the beginning but others were a total shock. Loved it all and can't wait to get more by Nora Roberts.
The narrator did an excellent job, very believable and easy to distinguish between the various characters.
PS, enjoyed the narrator so much I'm looking at other books she reads just because she read them.

A somewhat atypical Roberts book.

As I read this book, things kept sounding more and more familiar. I went to the author's website and it turns out I was correct; this book was loosely based in the town of Boonsboro, Maryland. The storyline was gripping and it was difficult to stop listening! There were new 'surprises' throughout the book, so it wasn't totally predictable. I enjoy the Nora Roberts as well as J.D. Robb (her pseudonym) and wish Audible would get more of the Roberts and all of the Robb books (there currently aren't ANY and I've sent in several requests). I am just glad that they had this one...I loved it!

More Suspense than Romance

Would you consider the audio edition of Divine Evil to be better than the print version?

This is an older audio book, with the narrator presenting it as "Books on Tape." However, don't let that dissuade you. The narrator, Kimberly Farr, does an excellent job.

What other book might you compare Divine Evil to and why?

This is not so much a romance, but a suspense story with a little romance thrown in. If you are a fan of Robert's JD Robb series, then the graphic violence and satanism in the storyline will not bother you. I am a big fan of the JD Robb series, so I enjoyed this book very much.

What about Kimberly Farr’s performance did you like?

Good job with all the characters, both male and female.

Any additional comments?

Some reviewers have stated that this book is too graphic. Again, if you are looking for a typical romance, this is not your book. If you like Robert's suspense books (the Witness, the JD Robb series), then you will enjoy this one, too.

great read...

I listened to this book every evening during a 200 mile hike. Sometimes it was so interesting I didn't want to turn off the iPod and go to sleep.

The narrator had a pleasant voice and was able to successfully make the change from one character to another.

The story was interesting and exciting.

Exciting and fun

What a great time!

A fast-paced, really interesting plot and a great narration. I listen on the way to work, and found myself circling the parking lot because I didn't want to stop listening!

It's got everything--the beautiful, spunky heroine, the ex-badboy cop, a small town with evil lurking around every corner. . .who could ask for more?

not quite evil enough

It was all right. The head jumping was unnerving, and the characters were a bit too cute while the story tried to be dark and never really got there. I did enjoy the ending, but this isn't really one I'd recommend.
