Publisher's Summary

What if you realized the book you were reading was all about you? Disclaimer stealthily steals your attention and by the end holds you prisoner - a searing story that resonates long after the final page.

"The best thriller I’ve read this year." (Rosamund Lupton, best-selling author of Sister)

    "Gripping"

I'm an avid reader of thrillers and do not mind if the bodies pile up. This book though does not fall into that category. Still, it held my attention from start to finish. The premise of the book is interesting and the characters and my opinion of them developed quickly. There are some twists and turns that leave you stunned, having judged the characters over the course of the story.
I'm glad I chose this title.

Love the outdoors and like to spirit a good book or audiobook into my pack. Live in the bush, grow much of my food and make stuff by hand.

    "Didn't draw me in"

This book began with a good premise but the story, when it came out, didn't seem to justify the actions it provoked and was based on a bag of assumptions with no evidence. The characters weren't convincing and became less so as the book progressed. By the ending, which seemed contrived and unbelievable, I was glad to finish the book. Disappointing.

    "Perfect if disturbing holiday thriller"

Like an onion the story peels back layer after layer and makes you cry along the way. Every character has depth and believability, the slow tragedy of what's coming lightly handled and compelling. There is a satisfying though not trite resolution and a final twist at the end - a brilliant read I can highly recommend.

    "Compelling story and clever writing"

I loved every minute of this audio book and thought about the story long after listening to an extract. The story is full of twists and turns and I enjoyed the device of alternating narrators/perspectives. The readers were fantastic and immediately believable and persuasive. I heard the novel being discussed with the author on Jo Goods BBC London show and was so intrigued I signed up for the free Audible trial (and I am so impressed with the ease of application and quality of recording that I plan to become a member.) Ms Knight should be immensely proud of her novel. I'm already looking forward to watching the film.

Struggled to finish, what started as an promising story became somewhat cliche & unconvincing as the plot progressed.

"Even better than The Girl On The Train!"

I thought it would be impossible to find a better 2014 thriller than The Girl On The Train...but Disclaimer managed it. Superb narration performances too.

    "Thoroughly horrible set of characters."

Great story, which kept me hooked but what a horrible lot of characters! Nobody was on the least bit likeable and this did mar the story for me. Not the five star book that I expected!

    "At last a literary thriller!"
Would you listen to Disclaimer again? Why?

I listened again almost immediately and was surprised at how much I had missed the first time. All the information is there but only if you know what to look for.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Disclaimer?

The descriptions of the life and actions of the male protagonist.
The narration is so good you really feel he is speaking to you.

Which scene did you most enjoy?

To tell would be to give away the denouement

If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

    Don't believe all you read.

    Any additional comments?

Although I've enjoyed other psychological thrillers I have sometimes found the actual writing light weight and often lazy; not so with Disclaimer. The characters are real people and their actions in times of stress are realistic and not contrived to fit in with the story.
The conclusion will surprise but not disappoint.

    "An Enjoyable Listen, Excellent Performances."

The book was really aided by the performances of the two actors recounting the story. However I felt it was flawed by the unbelievable plot and cliched result. Can't be more specific without spoiling it for others!
The ending could be improved on!

    "Good story, well written"

I found it took a while to get in to this book but once I was there I looked forward to listening to it whenever I could. The story was well written, weaving in in between past and present. The characters were not instantly likeable, but that did not seem to matter. The ending was unexpected but absolutely the right one. Recommended.
