Publisher's summary

J.J. Graves has seen a lot of dead bodies in her line of work... She's not only in the mortuary business, but she's also the coroner for King George County, Virginia. When a grisly murder is discovered in the small town of Bloody Mary, it's up to J.J. and her best friend, Detective Jack Lawson, to bring the victim justice. The murders are piling up... The residents of Bloody Mary are dropping like flies, and when a popular mystery writer shows up on J.J.'s doorstep with plans of writing his new book about the Bloody Mary Serial Killer, J.J. suspects the writer might be going above and beyond the call of duty to create the spine-tinglers he's so well known for.

It only clouds the issue and puts her reputation on the line when the attraction between them spirals out of control. And passions are rising... J.J. and Jack are in a race against time. They discover each victim had a shocking secret, and the very foundation of J.J.'s life is in danger of crumbling when it turns out she's harboring secrets of her own-secrets that make her the perfect victim in a deadly game.

Enjoyable!

Good story and a nice reader. Sometimes the story gets lost cause the reader is so awful this is a great combo of very good for both pieces. Would highly recommend.

Great story

Loved the characters and the settings. Absolutely love the fact that I didn't get a play by play during the sex scenes. Great who done it! I was surprised at the end, which is rare. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that JJ & Jack get together at some point

Good Book, Abrupt End

I would have given this 4 or even 5 stars, bot the end was so abrupt it was disconcerting. I went back as I thought I missed something. Then I felt manipulated to buy the next book. The funny part was I liked these characters and I would have bought the second book immediately, but now I have to think about it.

To the review: I found the story to be interesting. I did not see the ending ahead of time. JJ seemed real to me, a little Quincy, which was fun. This genre can become very unreal to make he story work, but that didn’t happen here. If you are looking for a good series, this might be for you. As a stand alone book, see above.

Fun read

This is an entertaining book. Not an intense plot but enjoyable.
J.J. the major character, biological clock is ticking and she has not had sex in months. Therefore, for most part of the book we are hearing about how long has been since she had sex and the unfairness of it all.

Lillana Hart does a fair job of throwing around a lot of suspects for what becomes several murders. One reviewer said she could not select the murder. I guessed the murder but Hart was clever enough that she did make me change my mind. Now that I am familiar with her style, that will not happen again.

This is a small town where your morning activities are lunch gossip. Many people are dying but no one can determine who is doing the murders. They did discover lunch news does not encompass the full extent of the town dirt.

The book is entertaining enough that I will read the next one.

Very good

Loved the story and characters. I kept thinking I knew "who dunnit" but of course, as usual, I was wrong. Look forward to listening to more from this author!

Good but need character info

I love mysteries but I want to know the characters too. Story was good but weak. Not enough detail to figure it out. Only heard killer's name twice maybe until the end. Will continue series and hope it builds.

Like a pilot for a tv series...

This book for me is similar to a pilot for a tv series - the characters and the plot are just getting settled into their roles and there are moments where they don't feel "firm". There are a couple of times where I felt something was off with the characters, but by the second book the author had the flow and characters down pat.
This book is a short one at just over 5 hours. It might come across as a bit rushed for some so I give that warning, but I feel it's a good start to the series and I liked it enough to purchase the second book.
I will say there are no clues as to who the murderer is throughout the story. *cheeky grin* But you do meet him early on in the story. This is something a little different for me as most mysteries I listen to have clues and I can guess them with accuracy pretty early on. So it was a refreshing change.

Ok but not much more than that.

Pretty thin plot. I'm always disappointed when the killer turns out to be a minor character with no red herrings even pointing to him. I feel somehow cheated.

Narrator was fine but not exceptional. Kind of how I felt about the whole thing!!

Won't buy this author again with all the truly exceptional stuff waiting to be heard.
