Publisher's summary

On the heels of his best-selling Choke and Imperfect Strangers, Stuart Woods brings back one of his best loved characters, Stone Barrington, who most recently appears in New York Dead, in a fast-paced roller-coaster ride through the high-profile world of celebrity gossip.

Feared and disliked for both her poison pen and her ice queen persona, bicoastal gossip columnist Amanda Dart finds the tables have turned. The unwitting victim of an anonymous gossipmonger who is faxing to national opinion makers an outrageous scandal sheet revealing the details of her ongoing indiscretions with a nationally known takeover artist, Amanda enlists the help of New York lawyer and investigator Stone Barrington to learn the identity of the faxer.

Everybody is a suspect in the world of tabloid journalism. As the faxes grow more scathing and begin to expose the peccadilloes of not only Amanda but other members of the gossip community, Barrington winds up with more leads than he can handle and an employer who is about to take matters dangerously into her own hands. The world of gossip is turned on its head. It becomes clear to Stone that even the most respected members of the social scene will stop at nothing - even murder - to clear their names.

Irresistible as only good gossip can be, Dirt is a mesmerizing tale of betrayal and murder set against a backdrop of the fast-paced Manhattan tabloid business; it is filled with the twists and turns that have made Stuart Woods' novels international hits.

Great

Another GREAT Stone Barrington! If it weren't for the mid '90 references to pay phones and and land lines, this book would be ageless.

Super fun listen, a little too dirty though.

Although I love these books by Stuart Woods I don’t understand why Stone must sleep with every woman in the story. Nonetheless this was a great book and entertaining, I loved the ending.

Different narrator-- he gets one star

I'm not a fan of narrator Farrone, (the first book), but Tony Roberts trying to deliver female lines is just grating and painful. I would take Farrone back in a minute if that's the only other choice. So far I've also heard his version of Dino's voice...awful. Why in the world did they decide to the rest of this series with him?

I still haven't decided whether I like Stone Barrington or not. Tony Roberts' voice makes him even less appealing. He's bright, mostly ethical, but when it comes to women he is incredibly shallow. I am wondering if he stays like that through whole series, or if he grows at all. He goes from 38 to 42 yre from last book to this. At this rate he'll end the series in his 60's!

Awful ending.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Left you handing, unfinished business, unless this is a series the loose ends needed to be completed.

Did a different author write this?

The first novel was better and had a different feel. This book has a bunch of gratuitous sex that doesn't really add to the story.

too much soft core porn

I lost track of how many women this guy sleeps with during the book. It's boring and repetitive. it's stupid and doesn't move the story along. and it's not even exciting as some soft porn. also Tony the Roberts is a great actor but character voices here are terrible.

One of the worst books I've ever read/listened to.

What type of "professional" says to someone they are interviewing "Your nipples are hard". I struggled with the first book, wanting to like it so I tried this one. I was still on the fence when this line came up. Seriously Mr Woods? That's what you came up with to justify Barrington sleeping with someone he met 5 minutes ago and cheating on his girlfriend? Seriously? What a dog. You must write for a certain type of male audience.
