Publisher's summary

The first victim is found in a snow-covered Philadelphia field. Detective Vito Ciccotelli enlists the aid of archaeologist Sophie Johannsen to determine exactly what lies beneath the frozen ground. Despite years of unearthing things long buried, nothing can prepare Sophie for the matrix of graves dug with chilling precision. The victims buried there haunt her. But the killer isn't done yet.

He is cold and calculating, the master of a twisted game. Even with Vito and Sophie hot on his trail, he will not stop. One more empty grave must be filled, and one last scream must be heard, the scream of an archaeologist who is too close for comfort and too near to resist.

Critic reviews

"No one does twisted killers better than the awe-inspiring Rose. Her ability to ratchet up the creepy factor within an exciting procedural thriller makes her tops in her field. The real trick, however, is balancing out a great villain with strong heroes and heroines, which is exactly the case in this fear-inducing novel." ( Romantic Times)

Die For Me

An inconsistent mess. I could be a good story line, but the details were just non-sense. The heroin rides a 1974 BMW motorcycle with 110hp. In 1974 the top of the line was an ugly R90S with 67hp. A tire track was found and determined to belong to a Ford F150, and the BS goes on and on....

Cartoon Characters

Everybody in this book is either terribly good or extremely evil. No nuances--everybody remains drawn entirely on the surface.

The sex scenes are horribly embarrasing and awkward. People don't suddenly "turn all hot" or "gasp with pleasure."

GLAACK!!!

I wish I could give this no stars.

I had to stop listening to this it was so awful. When the hardened cop turned into a babbling idiot at the first sight of our ridiculous heroine in her rainbow gloves and camo jacket I wanted to be ill. So very, very, very bad. Don't waste your time or your money.

Zoned out towards the end

It was a little tough to get through at times. The characters were fat and dull. And, storywise, think in a romance novel, it's tough to have a suspenseful scene with the heroine when you know that almost all romance have a HEA. This was such a case. I felt no threat from the antagonist/s. Also, some technical things felt forced to make the story work and 'explain' technology.

Hard to follow

I found myself re-winding this over and over because it just didn't make sense to me or flow like her other books. This is the first one I cannot say i loved. If i could turn it in and get a credit I wouldn't even finish it.

Plenty torture and sex..Take your pick

Yup torture and sex, but not really at the same time. The torture descriptions were raw and unnecessarily descriptive unless you are into pain and torture. The sex scenes were hot and steamy worthy of a hot romance novel if you are into that. The main characters were predictable: a drop dead gorgeous blond Amazon history professor who needs lessons in love and trust and the movie handsome, dark, tall, artistic and sensitive policeman who might well provide the needed lessons. All of this while in hot pursuit of a tortured psychopath that hides not so well in plain sight. Although it was very easy to guess who was who early on, there were vain attempts to misdirect the reader from guessing the identity and the motives of the evil doer. I think this book could be from a new genre i.e. "noir romance"? with enough appeal for those who prefer not to make a choice between noir police stories and hot romance novels. The rating for hot romance is 3 if you skip all the torture scenes.
