Publisher's summary

"I am Pepe. But you can call me el Jefe." Pepe may have soft white fur, big brown eyes, and mucho attitude - but he's no furry fashion fad. Pepe can talk - even if his new owner, Geri Sullivan, seems to be the only person who can understand him. When Geri takes on her first assignment for a quirky investigator named Jimmy G and stumbles over a Seattle millionaire's corpse, Pepe proves to be worth his weight in liver treats. Suspicion falls on the not-so-grieving widow, who wants to finance a reality TV show, Dancing With Dogs. Normally, Pepe wouldn't be caught muerte in a sparkly costume. However, he has to sniff out the real killer and keep Geri safe. Lesser dogs might flinch. But Pepe isn't the kind to turn tail and run...

Cute Book

The book was pretty cute. Not hilarious, like other reviewers said, but cute. Pepe reminded me of my chihuahua, who I had to put down last year at the age of 15, so I guess that's why I don't want to listen to further books in the series just yet.

Who would think a Chihuahua could be so funny

What made the experience of listening to Dial C For Chihuahua the most enjoyable?

The humor is priceless and is what really adds to the overall enjoyment of the book.

What did you like best about this story?

The crazy things that Pepe gets Geri Sullivan involved in.

What about Laura Darrell’s performance did you like?

Laura Darrell was a good reader. I would like it better if she used more definition between male and female characters. Sometimes it was hard to tell it was a male speaking. She also does a little to much on over emphasizing words so they don't flow well. Not a major problem but it is noticeable.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I did listen in almost one sitting.

Any additional comments?

I decided to try this book because the reviews were very good and I like a cozy mystery and some humor is always icing on the cake.

Dog lovers and mystery- great entertainment

First the voices; so many narrators take away from the story by dubbing all the sexes and in this case species- but I found this novel was an exception and the various voices were not a distraction while listening.
Chihuahua’s are not my favorite breed but since I love dogs and mystery and wanted to listen to something on the lighter side this was just the ticket.
I also liked the weaving of Geri’s personal issues into the story without crashing the overall theme.
Each element woven in wasn’t over the top except for “Jimmy G” which may have been intended- but his character was weird. I guess it takes all kinds.
The entire story is “light” but you can guess that with a talking dog; Pepe’s accent and character always hinting at the obvious (like funny comments about hydrants being an instinctive distraction not a wise decision to be a prop) aides in the entertainment and also solving the mystery.
I’m hooked and look forward to hearing the rest of the series.

Just couldn't stay with it

I thought this sounded like a cute book, but I lost interest so quickly. A narrator can make all the difference in whether a book is good or not, and this one just didn't keep me interested.

cute story ... particularly if you like Chihuahuas

of course it's definitely a "story" but very cute and fun. if you like Chihuahuas and just a purely made up story with the Chihuahua and it's female owner as private investigators you'll enjoy this book
