Wedding fever has come to Bon Temps, Louisiana! Unfortunately, buxom, blonde, beautiful, and telepathic cocktail waitress Sookie is not the bride-to-be, so she takes the opportunity to travel to New Orleans on family business. As heir to the estate of her newly dead cousin Hadley, Sookie unearths a big secret. Soon it becomes clear that more than a few people will do anything to stop Sookie from looking into Hadley's past. Fresh, fashionable, and a little bit frightening, Definitely Dead is the best entry yet in an endlessly entertaining series.

"Harris keeps the action going nonstop in this bubbly brew of supernatural spice and whimsical whodunit that's more fun than a barrel of beignets." (Publishers Weekly)
Another great Sookie Stackhouse book. Some interesting things are revealed in this book pertaining to Sookie's relationship with Bill and Eric. The first part of the book was a little slow but it made up for it in the second half which was non-stop suspense and intrigue. Quinn has grown on me some in this book and Sookie is getting tougher.
Sookie Stackhouse Series is a MUST read! I have listened/read all of the Sookie Stackhouse mysteries, 1 - 8. I enjoyed every single one of them. The writing is good, clear, suspenseful and humorous. The narrator, Johanna Parker, does some of the best narrating I have heard...exactly the way I would presume Sookie Stackhouse would sound. You can't go wrong with this series. I CAN'T WAIT until installment NINE!!
I've read & loved this series from the beginning & have enjoyed the development of Sookie from a fairly naive barmaid to a more street-savvy person. In this book, her smarts are quite apparent but so is her wide-eyed, small-town persona.
Johanna Parker's rendition of Sookie in this story as well as "Dead as a Doornail" is absolutely perfect. It is exactly as I imagined her to sound when I read the previous books. Ms Parker's voices for the other characters are also very good.
For me, this was thoroughly enjoyable translation from paper to voice. I look forward to listening to the next one.
I enjoyed True Blood on HBO so while listening to this book I can see the characters in my mind. Its a fun ( very dark at times ) adventure of Sookie and her strange friends. A+. I am a Man over 40 and a Fan of Dark Shadows. If you like DS you will like this.
Kind of lame. Kept my attention but not as much fun as previous 5 books. But I'm hooked, on to book 7, can't stop now!
This series is a pleasure partially because it is unpredictable. It is a light romantic mystery type of adventure with a paranormal twist but the series should be read in the order it was written.
There is plenty of drama in the interwoven storylines that including a miscarried baby, the marriage of the Queen of Louisiana and the King of Arkansas that involves Sookie's cousin's (Hadley) murder, a new love interest with a were tiger, the great revelation by Bill that is forced by Eric, the revealed truth about Sookie’s blood type and why it so attractive to Vampires and much more. Have I peeked your interest?
The book is worth the read but as I said earlier the books should be read in the order they were written. Thus, I am getting very annoyed with the amount of backtracking to bring non-readers up to speed. Yes, I can and do skip these parts but it is still annoying. That is one of the reasons that I cannot give this book a five star rating. The other reason is the introduction of the psychotic family of Debbie Pelt. It makes absolutely no sense and the book does not need this added drama.
I've listened to all the books thus far and I loved the narrator's voices for all the characters and her acting capabilities.
Believer in what you can't see
Yes, I love the introduction of Quinn the were-tiger. I wish he was in the series more than he was. I also like that Eric is annoyed that Sookie is looking else where for male companionship. I think it is kinda of cute that he has to deal with his feelings about Sookie.
My favorite scene is the date between Sookie and Quinn. He like her so much and seems really fun to be with. It is unfortunate that Sookie gets so upset with him, so quickly.
What is hidden beneath.
Great series. Love the way Charlaine Harris writes her books. The stories are always action back and yet endearing.
I love SciFi and Fantasy books. I love any Star Wars book. Some of my Fav's are Harry Potter, Eragon, Hunger Games, and Game of Thrones.
Yes, the Narrator is great!
Hunger Games, also has a great reader!
Any with the Tiger in it! Human or otherwise!
The good guy never wins!
Great story and great books! Love to follow story's like this! Much better then Twilight!! :P
Quinn is awesome.
The most memorable moment on Definitely Dead was probably the meeting between Quinn, Sookie, and the Weres in the bar.
Her sexy, musical, lilting voice with an awesome accent.
Yes, but I couldn't because I save listening to these books for my time in the office.
If you could be any kind of Were wouldn't you want to be a were-tiger? Yeah, you would. Then you'd be a tiger once a month!
Yes....I think just about anyone would enjoy these books.
Any of the other Charlaine Harris books.
Yes..as with all the Sookie books she does a great job.
Yes I would've loved to just didn't have the time.
