Publisher's summary

“Few writers do it better than Child.” (Booklist)

Former naval doctor Peter Crane is urgently summoned to a remote oil platform in the North Atlantic to help diagnose a bizarre medical condition spreading through the rig. But when he arrives, Crane learns that the real trouble lies far below—on Deep Storm, a stunningly advanced science research facility built two miles beneath the surface on the ocean floor. The top-secret structure has been designed for one purpose: to excavate a recently discovered undersea site that may hold the answers to a mystery steeped in centuries of myth and speculation.

Sworn to secrecy, Dr. Crane descends to Deep Storm.

A year earlier, he is told, routine drilling uncovered the remains of mankind’s most sophisticated ancient civilization: the legendary Atlantis. But now that the site is being excavated, a series of disturbing illnesses has begun to affect the operation. As Crane is indoctrinated into the strange world of Deep Storm and commences his investigation, he begins to suspect that the covert facility conceals something more complicated than a medical mystery. The discovery of Atlantis might, in fact, be a cover for something far more sinister...and deadly.

Get a new phrase...

Maybe it's me, but I don't like hearing "almost imperceptible nod" more than once, if at all. What I find annoying about it is it is used in his other books as well. The story is good enough beyond that to keep me entertained.

Storming into your mind

Deep Storm is, in my opinion, Child's best book so far. It's original, relentless, and mind grabing with a shocking ending. The plot is unpredictable, the characters memorable, the writing is amazing. As an author, myself, I was in awe of Child's talent. If you like Mystery, Science and Terror grab this book. Deep Storm delivers a unforgettable read. EE

Thoroughly Enjoyed

I really enjoy Child's books. I like the twists that he adds at the end of his books. I do agree that the narrator is less than perfect- but it definitely didn't ruin the book for me. I almost didn't get this book because of the mixed reviews but I'm really glad I did. I love this genre and was thoroughly entertained.

An Intriguing Ride

I rather liked this book. Scott Brick is always entertaining as a reader and is one of my favorites. The book suits his style perfectly. This is the first book I have heard from this author and I was very impressed. I was a little disappointed in the character development, but enjoyed the main plot emensely. The first half of the book I struggled to put pieces together trying to figure out what was happening, but was intrigued enough to continue listening. Then, as the pieces started to fit together the book took me in quite a different direction than I was thinking. I loved the book more and more as I kept listening. Listen to it someplace dark and quiet and let Scott Brick read you a scary puzzle with a great ending. The end isnt really a twist but I surely did not expect what happened.

Good story

Interesting story, but really killed by the narrator. Did somebody tell him to slow down in order to reach a desired time decided upon for the lenght of this book? I was totally put off from enjoying the book by having to listen to the book in s l o w m o t i o n. Come on, nobody talks like that!?

Solid offering from Lincoln Child

I love a good Indiana Jonesish romp thru new territory!! I like the archeologist feel and Crane is a great new character, a naval doctor! There were times I felt he was a little naive for who he was supposed to be, more civilian than any military background but it was a fun book! I liked the final reveal of the danger.

Exciting well-developed thriller

What did you love best about Deep Storm?

interesting story line. one of Child's better works..

Have you listened to any of Scott Brick’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I like him as a narrator, easy to understand.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Not really, would have been too much. Best broken into parts. keeps the interest that way.

Any additional comments?

Would recommend to those that like this genre, thriller with science fiction flavor.

An Entertaining Story but...

Deep Storm was entertaining. It was a good story, but the believability of the whole military base and the amount of backstabbing and lack of authority was was just too much to really get my head around even for a sci-fi story.

His most interesting story yet!

Really liked the whole premise and the concept concerned me as it was such a possible reaction by us humans to such a fantastic situation. Full of twists and turns not all easily anticipated. Great read! Left me wishing for a sequel.
