Publisher's summary

When a NASA satellite discovers an astonishingly rare object buried deep in the Arctic ice, the floundering space agency proclaims a much-needed victory, a victory with profound implications for NASA policy and the impending presidential election. To verify the authenticity of the find, the White House calls upon the skills of intelligence analyst Rachel Sexton. Accompanied by a team of experts, including the charismatic scholar Michael Tolland, Rachel travels to the Arctic and uncovers the unthinkable: evidence of scientific trickery, a bold deception that threatens to plunge the world into controversy. But before she can warn the President, Rachel and Michael are ambushed by a deadly team of assassins. Fleeing for their lives across a desolate and lethal landscape, their only hope for survival is to discover who is behind this masterful plot. The truth, they will learn, is the most shocking deception of all.

Critic reviews

"Brown moves into new territory with his latest. It's an excellent thriller: a big yet believable story unfolding at breakneck pace, with convincing settings and just the right blend of likable and hateful characters. He's also done his research, folding in sophisticated scientific and military details that make his plot far more fulfilling than the norm." (Publishers Weekly)
"A dazzling high-tech adventure...Brown proves once again that he is among the most intelligent and dynamic of authors in the thriller genre." (Library Journal)
"This is pretty exciting stuff...and Brown certainly does have a knack for spinning a suspenseful yarn." (Booklist)

OK for a Sunday afternoon

This was OK good and full load any of the characters and just had nothing to do

It’s funny have a good narrator can make or break a story. Although his performance was fine it was annoyingTo hear him constantly take a break to have a sip of water. But a much better books.

Great book, strange audio

This book was super good! Highly recommended. However, I swear the narrator had cough drops in his mouth the whole time. He did a great job reading, but in pauses you can absolutely hear him swallowing, shifting cough drops around in his mouth, and just other mouth/saliva-based noises. So great book! Just be aware of those sounds, especially if that’s something that grosses you out.

Gross Mouth Noises

The narrator has a terrible habit of making mouth noises that sound like he’s trying to clear his mouth of a recently chewed peanut. Faster listen speed helps. If you can get through the tongue hockey, the story is great.

love Dan Brown and all his books!

I love the book and enjoy getting swept up in his stories. But the audio is so crisp and too close to the narrators mouth. i can literally hear the saliva in the corner of his mouth, and every time he swallows.

Great book told by great narrator

Really enjoyed this book. After reading so many negative comments about narrator - I was curious to judge for myself: and after listening to this unabridged version of book, all I can say - wow. Really enjoyed it.

Tightly Woven Political and Scientific Thriller

Rule 8 in Jordan Peterson's book 12 Rules for Life is: "Tell the truth or at least don't lie." Most of the characters in Deception Point fail to heed this advice. The main character is Rachel Sexton, daughter of the leading opponent of President Hearney in the upcoming election. Rachel's job is summarizing information for the executive branch, but the Chief Executive sends her to the arctic to investigate a meteorite NASA has discovered. The book centers on the meteorite's authenticity and the fight to keep NASA as a government agency rather than turning space exploration over to private companies. (Senator Sexton is an ambitious politician from Delaware who's first wife died in a vehicle accident - reminding me of a prominent Washingtonian.) There is a lot of excitement and Rachel has several brushes with death as she unravels the mystery of NASA's rock discovery. Ultimately for me, there was an over abundance of scientific jargon and implausible scenarios that detracted from the story. Richard Poe has a rich voice and does well on the general narration but his character voices, especially those of women, leave a lot to be desired. You'll probably enjoy this title but not as much as Brown's masterpiece, The DaVinci Code.

Awesome story line. Kept my attention to the very end. Like all of the books but this is the best.

I'll never get tired of Dan Brown

Deception Point is an action filled and gripping story of loyalty, deceit and trust wrapped up in tons of information you'd never know without the extensive research done by Mr Brown in all his books. Seriously, I love all his books and this one isn't an exception. It starts off a bit slow imo, but once the action kicks in, you're locked to your headphones until the very end. I've read it so many times when I was younger and now, with limited time due to kids and life, I'm so happy to get a chance to "re-read" my favourite books via audio. Dan Brown has been and will always be one of my favourite authors, and I hope he continues to write amazing and captivating stories.
