Publisher's summary

When a NASA satellite discovers an astonishingly rare object buried deep in the Arctic ice, the floundering space agency proclaims a much-needed victory, a victory with profound implications for NASA policy and the impending presidential election. To verify the authenticity of the find, the White House calls upon the skills of intelligence analyst Rachel Sexton. Accompanied by a team of experts, including the charismatic scholar Michael Tolland, Rachel travels to the Arctic and uncovers the unthinkable: evidence of scientific trickery, a bold deception that threatens to plunge the world into controversy. But before she can warn the President, Rachel and Michael are ambushed by a deadly team of assassins. Fleeing for their lives across a desolate and lethal landscape, their only hope for survival is to discover who is behind this masterful plot. The truth, they will learn, is the most shocking deception of all.

Critic reviews

"Brown moves into new territory with his latest. It's an excellent thriller: a big yet believable story unfolding at breakneck pace, with convincing settings and just the right blend of likable and hateful characters. He's also done his research, folding in sophisticated scientific and military details that make his plot far more fulfilling than the norm." (Publishers Weekly)
"A dazzling high-tech adventure...Brown proves once again that he is among the most intelligent and dynamic of authors in the thriller genre." (Library Journal)
"This is pretty exciting stuff...and Brown certainly does have a knack for spinning a suspenseful yarn." (Booklist)

Written like a action movie.

This book is what government conspiracy is made of. Written like a Hollywood action movie, the reader is gripped from start to finish. Dan brown’s book starts off simple enough building to a climax to almost the end, finishing with calm happiness.

Decent read... Bad narrating

I enjoyed the book but I found it annoying when there was a break I could hear what the narrator was doing... Taking a drink of water, breathing heavy, or smacking his lips. Quite distracting. Also there wasn't much differences in character voices.

Deception Point

I'm a big fan of Dan Brown. It's unbelievably hard to follow the Davinci Code, but this was a noble and entertaining try!

My first Dan Brown Novel

Great story, I look forward to reading another. I personally wish there was a standardized rating scale for books and appreciate the reviews that identify those aspects.

There are a total of 4 F-words that I counted and no sex scenes (moderate language with the other words). overall, a fairly clean read and great story that keeps ones interest.

Lower the volume....

I usually listen to audiobooks at a good volume but this guy sounds like he has the microphone IN his mouth. You hear every saliva drip, swallow, mouth moistening movement. It was so off-putting I stopped listening for weeks and looked at the reviews to see if others experienced this. They did. The suggestion was to listen to the book on as low a volume as you can while still able to hear the narration. That worked. I’d never have been able to listen to the whole thing if not for that recommendation, the mouth sounds are disturbing and gross.
The book was a decent listen. Grabbed my attention, I liked it.

Catches your attention from the very beginning!

From start to finish this book keeps your attention and is a wonderful read/listen! The amount of research needed is amazing but very well done! Enjoy!!

Great Story

really enjoyed this story and never wanted to press the stop button! only had one MINOR issue with the background noise/narrator side noises that probably only bother those with really good hearing.

Good story, ok narrator

I love Dan Brown novels, however this particular narrator makes several audible mouth noises throughout the entire story.
