When a NASA satellite discovers an astonishingly rare object buried deep in the Arctic ice, the floundering space agency proclaims a much-needed victory, a victory with profound implications for NASA policy and the impending presidential election. To verify the authenticity of the find, the White House calls upon the skills of intelligence analyst Rachel Sexton. Accompanied by a team of experts, including the charismatic scholar Michael Tolland, Rachel travels to the Arctic and uncovers the unthinkable: evidence of scientific trickery, a bold deception that threatens to plunge the world into controversy. But before she can warn the President, Rachel and Michael are ambushed by a deadly team of assassins. Fleeing for their lives across a desolate and lethal landscape, their only hope for survival is to discover who is behind this masterful plot. The truth, they will learn, is the most shocking deception of all.©2001 Dan Brown (P)2004 Simon & Schuster Inc. AUDIOWORKS is an imprint of Simon & Schuster Audio Division, Simon & Schuster Inc. Critic reviews

"Brown moves into new territory with his latest. It's an excellent thriller: a big yet believable story unfolding at breakneck pace, with convincing settings and just the right blend of likable and hateful characters. He's also done his research, folding in sophisticated scientific and military details that make his plot far more fulfilling than the norm." (Publishers Weekly)
"A dazzling high-tech adventure...Brown proves once again that he is among the most intelligent and dynamic of authors in the thriller genre." (Library Journal)
"This is pretty exciting stuff...and Brown certainly does have a knack for spinning a suspenseful yarn." (Booklist)

I enjoyed the story though it was a bit slow to get started (unlike Angels and Daemons and DaVinci). I got exasperated at the too frequent use of teasers in the beginning, after a while "... and then what she saw was amazing [end of chapter]" and "... he couldn't believe his eyes. [end of chapter]" got annoying rather than building more suspense. It felt like he spent the whole first half of the book making filler with teasers thrown on top for a little flavor.

One it got rolling it was a good ride though, the ending was somewhat surprising if you tried to forget the style of his other books and realize the misdirections along the way were there to make an unexpected finish. Overall quite enjoyable.

The narrator is exellent and was well directed, he gives great life to the characters, locations and events.

The recording was horrible, it sounded like they installed the mic inside the narrators mouth. The sounds of him breathing and swallowing were frequently distacting and downright disgusting at times.

Good story, great narrator, bad recording

Dan Brown has another hit on his hands. My fiancee and I had a long drive over the weekend and couldn't wait to get back in the car to hear this book. I have listened to 5 books a month for the past 4 years and this book ranks in the top 5. The reader is also very skillful and easy to listen to. If you have a long trip to take somewhere, this is the book to take.

Fantastic!

A decent story, as one would expect from Brown. One of the worst narrators I have ever listened to. The obnoxious mouth noises almost made me give up.

A nice story horribly read

If you have trouble listening to slobbering noises, swallowing noises and spit sounds when talking then this audio book is not for you. I am a big Dan Brown fan, but I had to stop listening to this book due to the gross noises the narrator makes.

Would you listen to Deception Point again? Why?

Yes. Story kept you on edge and always wanting to hear more. Lots of twists and turns making it impossible to determine ending.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes

Great book

I almost could not finish listening to this as the sounds of the actor's breathing and swallowing mouth sounds directly into the microphone was driving me nuts.
the story while interesting was overly formulaic, and unfortunately dated. Not the best of Me. Brown's efforts.

Lots of noise.

The speaker has audible mouth noises throughout the reading which nearly made it impossible to finish. Great story but sounded like he was eating throughout it. Editing fail.

Great book poor read

In the true style of DaVinci Code and Angels and Demons, Brown brings a book with US connection and true science believability. Even if you don't like politics this story is based around politics and science and he does an excellent job keeping it believable. Better then DaVinci Code and better than Angels and Demons.

Excellent Book

Great book but this guy keeps drinking or something on mic and it sounds disgusting. he should mute the mic first.

Story is great but this guy's voice is annoying.

If you are sensitive to mouth noises, smacking lips, siliva, forced swallowing etc this recording is painful to the point where you'll have a hard time getting through it. I had to stop the book a quarter of the way. A large portion of such noises are between phrases so they could easily have been edited out. I hope this editor never worked again. Really no excuse for this level of author/price of recording.

horrific recording
