Fan of Tom Clancy...

I’ve read this book before, and love listening to it being read. However, I’m not a fan of John McDonald. He reads and sounds like a computer. A lot of the Navy jargon used is spoken wrongly. He got the letters right, just pronounced them wrong, such as referring the Navy Public Address system as the I (eye) MC instead of the 1 (One) MC and calling the chief engineer the Chenj (with a soft g) instead of Cheng (with a hard G). Having served in the Navy, that is the correct way to pronounce it. Not terrible, just wish he had done a little research first.

Honor to your citizens

Jack Ryan retired he left government business after Bob Fowler made a near disastrous mistake. now he golfs, back in the financial market and spending time with his family when he is called into the white house. the new president Rodger Durling is asking him to come back as the National Security Adviser.

in the world a major car accident of a Japanese car results in a new trade law being passed that hurts japan. Japan retaliates and attacked the US forces, takes Saipan and Guam as well as destroy the US economy.

Jack Ryan has to figure out how to be able to deal with the multiple threats found from japan, while at the same time India is acting up and hints that china might be trying too.

What will they do to solve this big issue?

Great Story

What made the experience of listening to Debt of Honor the most enjoyable?

I really enjoyed the economic, political and military parts of the story line. They were woven together masterfully.

Narrator not as bad as some say.

Sure, at 1st MacDonald does seem a bit robotic, but as by the 3rd chapter he begins to gain some momentum. Sure he's no Scott Brick in SoAF (my fav narrator of all the Clancy series) but he is pretty good in his own right once he gets into pace. I particularly like his dialogue between Clark and Chavez when he'd switch to a Russian accent to indicate that they were actually speaking Russian to each other.

Mediocre Reader. 😕

The story is great. However, the reader is mediocre. His attempts at foreign accents is passable. However, he does not pause for section breaks within the chapters. And, he would do well to look-up the big words which he can not pronounce. 😕

Narrater

The narrator is John MacDonald, but sounds like the computer from War Games. I love Tom Clancy books, but this is un-listenable.

Good Book, bad narrator

This has always been one of my favorite novels in the Jack Ryan series. I was looking forward to hearing it on audible, as i have the previous titles by Mr. Clancy, narrated by either Scott Brick or Michael Prichard. I can only say that I pray whoever holds the license gets a new version of this book by one of them. The Narrator for the current version is, in short, trash.

Good story

Good story line. Kept my interest and didn't want to turn it off. Not a fan of John MacDonald. He kind of ruined it for me.

Horrible Narration

If you could sum up Debt of Honor in three words, what would they be?

Too much detail

Who was your favorite character and why?

John Clark

What does John MacDonald bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Worst narration ever, it really ruined a great book for me. He did ok on the accents, but bulled his way through the punctuation without any inflection in his voice.
