Publisher's summary

This first installment of a cozy mystery series transports listeners back to the bygone era of 1923 Britain, where unflappable flapper and fledgling journalist Daisy Dalrymple daringly embarks on her first writing assignment, and promptly stumbles across a corpse.

No stranger to sprawling country estates, wealthy Daisy Dalrymple is breaking new ground in having scandalously traded silver spoon for pen and camera to cover a story for Town and Country magazine. But her planned interviews with the inhabitants of Wentwater Court give way to interrogation after suave Lord Stephen Astwick meets a dire fate on the tranquil skating pond.

Armed with evidence that his fate was anything but accidental, Daisy joins forces with Scotland Yard to examine an esteemed collection of suspects and to see that the unlikely culprit doesn't slip through their fingers just as the unfortunate Astwick slipped through the ice.

loved

I just love English Mysteries. All the suspects are present but the way the story unfolds and the person who committed the crime unfolds is fun and interesting.

Readers accents did not match the setting

The story was easy to listen to with an expected out come, a little “twee” 😁 in a good way. The setting was easy to imagine from the descriptions as were the characters. Unfortunately the readers mispronunciations of the British accent spoilt the book for me, I don’t think an American audience would have noticed

Quite nice

I thought the narrator did a pretty good job. She has a lovely voice. The story itself is a tad unbelievable in places, and the "solution" is quite a stretch, but I still enjoyed listening to this book.

Love Daisy!

Really cute British cozy mystery. Daisy is totally likeable, Alec is long-suffering but you can tell he likes Daisy, and the actress reading the book does a great job with all the characters, and there are a lot of them.

HOORAY for another strong, independent, female detective!!!

I am just thrilled to have discovered another historical mystery series about a woman bucking society's sexist oppression!!! :-) :-) :-)
Yes, ideally this woman would be a member of a class of society not benefitted by high social standing, but at least this hero earns her own, modest income which is her sole means of support. (Chosen means, yes; the fact that she makes this choice is deserving of esteem.)

Great series starter - a lot of fun!

Death at Wentwater Court is a charming romp with snow-covered countryside, a rambling old English country house, and a most congenial murder. As one reviewer pointed out, the accents can be a bit shaky. To my American ears, though, the flaws weren’t as striking and certainly didn’t distract from the brisk action and great characters. I can’t wait to listen to Daisy Dalrymple’s next adventure!
