Publisher's summary

Charlaine Harris' Anthony Award-winning Sookie Stackhouse mysteries have become a fixture on the New York Times best-seller list and have inspired the acclaimed HBO series True Blood.

In her ninth adventure, Sookie has just tied on her cocktail waitress apron for a night's work when a special report comes on the television. The time has come. The wereanimals have revealed themselves.

But there's an even greater danger threatening Bon Temps. A race of unhuman beings - older, more powerful, and more secretive than vampires or werewolves - is preparing for war. And Sookie finds herself an all-too human pawn in their battle.

I always enjoy Sookie and gang

What made the experience of listening to Dead and Gone: Sookie Stackhouse Southern Vampire Mystery #9 the most enjoyable?

I love Johanna Parker's narration. I have a new job with an hour drive each way and this was a pleasant way to spend it. Narration was great, and I always enjoy the Sookie stories.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Eric is always my fav!

Have you listened to any of Johanna Parker’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I love Johanna Parker's narration. This is the first audio book for me ever, and Johanna has now spoiled me for all others. Right down to her slightly southern accent, you can easily believe you are listening to Sookie. I've since purchased and listened to the remaining books on my long drive each day.

Not bad at all

Would you listen to Dead and Gone: Sookie Stackhouse Southern Vampire Mystery #9 again? Why?

In contrast to the person reviewing this before me, I enjoyed this book. I have read and/or listened to the entire collection, and am not disappointed.

What does Johanna Parker bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Johanna Parker is superb in her reading and interpretation of the characters.

Thank you Charlanine Harris

Charlaine Harris has once again out done herself! This addition to the Sookie Stackhouse series was worth waiting for. If it is possible to fall more in love with the heroine you will. Charlaine Harris knows how to pull on the emotional string while filling the story with excitement, suspense and deep character detail. The world of Sookie Stackhouse of is enthralling and addictive. The show “True Blood” based on the Sookie Stackhouse stories only reveals the outer most surface of the addictive story line. Please start from the beginning of the series so that you do not miss any of the fine details offered by the author.

My only regret in this story line is that I can not share it with the younger members of my family. This is an adult story. A great story yes, but it would be a strong R rating if it were a movie.

I can not wait for the next installment. I hope Charlaine Harris does not bask too long in the success of “Dead and Gone” and publishes the next installment very soon.

Great consistent voice acting

I have read these series several times and I love the series & the author! But I really appreciate the voice actor through this story, same voices for each character through each book, and how sookie slowly evolves through the books & her voice matches to make sense. Love it

Sookie back in trouble

I have become a Sookie fan. I read the first book in this series during the HBO run of True Blood. I continued to read the next seven, like I was eating potato chips. You can't read less than one.

I noticed that the book entered the NY times bestseller list this week at number 1. I only want the prospective reader to know, that you should have read the other books first, since this book relates to the plots of the previous books intensively.

I confess...

...I'm addicted! I bought the first issue of Sookie's adventures about five weeks ago and I just finished #9. I can't get enough! I listen in the car, while I'm cleaning, and while I'm trying to fall asleep (although I must say they inspire creepy dreams).

The story line is always interesting! I love all the different characters. Johanna Parker is a great narrator. She embodies what I imagine Sookie really sounds like and her ability to do other charcters (& species) is fantastic!

Great Series

Any additional comments?

I thoroughly enjoy this series, have read the books as well as listened to the audio versions. Johanna Parker makes this series in audio. I have purchased other books solely based on her being the narrator. I hope she narrates all the future books in the Sookie Stackhouse series.

Couldn't put it down

I am ready for the next book Charlaine. My brain is aching to know what happens next. There was never a slow point in the book. However, a few holes here and there. I got so involved in the book I was staring at my Ipod when the narrator said "The End". I thought NO WAY!!!!! I love the whole series. I really love the relationship between Eric and Sookie.
