    "A Great Listen"

I have read and loved JA Jance's novels before but this time is my first on audiobook. I truly enjoyed the twists and turns of the story. The narrator did an excellent job with the different voices and nuances to distinguish all the characters. I was disappointed to see she had not done many other Joanna Brady books - I will look for her narrations again. Timing at the end of the story was somewhat predicatble, but of course with a pregnant sheriff that is expected. Most of all I ended up really liking and disliking a lot of the characters, which is what you really want in a good virtuous/evil whodunnit. I highly recommend Dead Wrong, I kept looking for excuses to get in the car and drive around so I could hear more.

    "Great book -- perfect narrator"

I've often thought that J. A. Jance and I must be sisters -- clearly we had the same mother. No other way she could have created some of these "difficult women" other than to have experienced it herself. In Dead Wrong, two of the female characters she brings in are so spot-on with what I remember from my own family that I'm convinced Jance must have been hiding under the table and taking notes on the conversations. Love it, just love it -- made me laugh many times over. I remember, I remember!

The Joanna Brady series is one of my very favorites in all of literature. Reading -- or listening to -- another installment is like meeting old friends. The stories are just excellent -- real life, real people, real situations -- well, maybe that one where Joanna, under assault out there in the desert somewhere, takes off her bra and uses it as a slingshot to off one of the bad guys is a little bit of a stretch but for the most part, these books are fun because they're so believable.

As far as I know, this is the first Joanna Brady book narrated by Stephanie Brush, and I have to say I love that too! I became a fan of Brush's in her narration of "Crow in Stolen Colors" by Marcia Simpson, and then again in Simpson's "Sound Tracks", two other really excellent books, these set in Alaska. I thought her voice -- and subtle little unidentifiable accent -- was perfect for those out-of-the mainstream tales, but now I see that it's also perfect for that of Joanna Brady. Very good choice -- and makes an already wonderful book that much better.

    "Another Good One"

I FINALLY have found a series of really good books to read. I love J. Brady as the lead character. With each book, you are ready to help her solve another one or see what she is going to get into next. It is a great read each time. The auther has a great handle on story line and it is a pleasure to read the next episode.

    "Dead Wrong and Dead Awful!"

There are so many things wrong with this book, I'm not sure where to begin. The thing that stands out the most for me is the skills of the narrator, which are seriously lacking. Stephanie Brush has a lovely pleasant voice and she does Joanna Brady nicely. However, she cannot do anyone else in a decent, convincing voice. When she does males, she uses a throaty, shrill voice that makes them instantly annoying and unlikeable. At first, I felt her husband had aphasia or a mental deficiency, the halting way he spoke. She was equally awful at doing crying children or crying women--ferociously awful! She needs to go to Narrator School, for sure! No, I would NOT listen to another of her narrations, even if it was for a favorite author.

Then, on to the story which was sorely lacking in credibility. We are to believe that a 9 months pregnant Joanna, only a week away from her due date, is working full-time, late into the evening, AND weekends in dangerous situations with no worries, no aching tiredness, or fears of doing damage to her unborn son? We are to believe her husband is perfectly okay with this, too? We are to believe she can fly down onto the ground, lie on her 9-months pregnant stomach, and shoot a bad guy from under her car? And the old tired cliche that parents must be inconsiderate, obnoxious idiots--both Joanna's AND also her husband's?

The story was not very believable, either, and much too easily wrapped up in the end. Oh yes, Joanna was perky and fine right after the delivery and continued to work from her hospital bed! It leads us to speculate that the baby will enter daycare immediately and perhaps never see his mother again.

I thought I really enjoyed Jance's books. I am thinking she is either resting on her laurels, relying on formula stories, or not using editors anymore. Too bad. I really like her settings and have even spent time in the Huachuca Mountains . . . .

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I have always loved the Joanna Brady series. There are always great and realistic characters and plots. Stephanie Brush IS Joanna Brady. This is a great story, and read perfectly.

    "Narrator needs much more training"
Would you try another book from J. A. Jance and/or Stephanie Brush?

I might try another Jance book but definitely not one narrated by Brush. She made the male characters sound retarded.

Has Dead Wrong turned you off from other books in this genre?

I won't be eager to try another. It was very annoying to me that Joanna, a pregnant mother, put herself in dangerous circumstances so close to the baby's birth. She seemed to have no sense. Also she needed some backbone to deal with both mothers.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

As I said above, she made the male characters sound retarded with a slow halting speech. Particularly annoying for Joanna's husband.

Was Dead Wrong worth the listening time?

No, too annoying from the narrator.

    "Joanna Brady Series"

I really enjoy the Joanna Brady series and I like J.A. Jance's writing. The narrator brings the story alive. But there seems to be a formal quality to the story and it is difficult to "feel" what the characters feel. In comparision to Jance's Ali Reynolds series this one is lacking a bit. But, it is still an excellent listen.
