Publisher's summary

Summer is a hectic time of the year for Annie Darling. Sun and scorching temperatures never fail to bring swarms of tourists to her mystery bookstore, Death on Demand. But Annie still finds time to enjoy herself. The Broward's Rock Fourth of July dance is just around the corner, and the island is buzzing with excitement - Shell Hurst included.

Shell is the kind of woman wives hate - and most of them wish she would just disappear. But when she does, Annie can't help but feel like someone should be looking for Shell. The residents of Broward's Rock grow uneasy when a second islander mysteriously disappears. Annie and her husband, Max, soon find themselves following a twisted trail marked by blackmail, betrayal, and adultery.

Don't let new narrator dissuade you from listening!

I almost skipped this book in the series based on some of the reviews concerning the change in narrator. Glad I didn't! Johanna Parker was an excellent substitution for Kate Reading.

Bring back Kate Reading

This narrator tried too hard to make every sentence sound dramatic. Her reading was almost breathy. There was no differentiation between the words of the characters and the narrative and the accents were all over the place making it very difficult to tell the characters apart.

Returned this title

I usually enjoy these books immensely as narrated by Kate Reading. Johanna Parker’s narration is rushed and her southern accent is annoying She conveys little of the warmth and charm of the characters in this series. After 5 chapters I decided I wasn’t going to adjust to her style and returned the audiobook rather than waste a credit on something I couldn’t enjoy. Sorry, Johanna.

Narrator Change

Changing the narrator is not a good thing. It completely through everything off. I must have listened to this one three times and still could make heads nor tails of the story. Sorry this may be good for someone who never heard the readings by Kate Reading.

book I think was well thought out.

but the reader, I am not sure why but it just didn't sound right. maybe accent, or she just wasnt into the book. It could also be after 22 books by Kate Reading it just didn't seem right.

Terrible reader!

What would have made Dead, White, and Blue better?

While I can understand that a reader might have to change it seems that someone who understands how the previous books were read could be chosen. The strange pitch changes and the peculiar tones used by this reader are taking away from the listening experience. I am only into the fist chapters and it seems the story line will be as entertaining as usual for this series but I can only listen in short segments since this readers voice is grating. Poor choice!

Disappointed

Horrible narrator ruined an otherwise lovely story. I couldn't finish listening to the book because of her. No match for Kate Reading!

Still listen after several months

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

I enjoyed the previous books in this series. This one is a bit difficult to get through. I am a bit bored with it. I have had it for several months and have started and completed other ebooks during this time.
