It was meant to be a harmless stag-night prank. A few hours later Michael Harrison has disappeared, and his friends are dead.
With only three days to the wedding, Detective Superintendent Roy Grace - a man haunted by the shadow of his own missing wife - is contacted by Michael's beautiful, distraught fiancée, Ashley Harper.
Grace discovers that the one man who ought to know Michael Harrison's whereabouts is saying nothing. But then he has a lot more to gain than anyone realizes, for one man's disaster is another man's fortune....
Dead Simple is the stunning first novel in the number-one best-selling Roy Grace series from award-winning author Peter James.

Having just finished the Frieda Klein stories by Nicci French, I was looking for a worthy replacement... Scared that I couldn't find one, I bought this. WOW! Fantastic, I enjoyed it thoroughly (couldn't stop listening to it!) and am thrilled that this is a long, long series of books! I'm going to start the second in the series straight away. If in doubt, BUY IT!
"Great story as always by Peter James"
it was brilliant. now for book number two in the Roy Grace series. Finished this book very quickly it was so exciting
"first time audiobook - success"
narrated really well. my first audio book and thought it might be a bit slow but stuck with it. as the story progressed, it became better and better. will be listening to more Peter James and more Tim Bruce. i also managed a pile of ironing painlessly as well as listening and relaxing, too. much less restrictive than reading myself . it won't replace reading completely but will be a great way of covering more novels.
I have read before but wanted to listen/read again this time in order. The plot is fantastic and I really enjoy the way it uses real locations - and often real people. Highly recommended.
"Fast paced roller coaster."
Fast paced roller coaster. The ending was not enough of a surprise for me to give it 5 stars, but I am going to get some more of his books now I've finished this one.
"My first audible book"
A super story with many unexpected twists and turns.
I would highly recommend this book
Amman excellent story with twists and turns at every opportunity and all unforeseeable!
Can't wait to listen to the next story!
I've just discovered this author after seeing a flier for a play based on one of his books. What a find! Brilliantly realistic characters and conversations, plot lines - one in particular - that had me considering stopping listening, such was the tension and the unpredictability of the constantly unfolding, twisting story. Lush! Can't wait to buy the next in the series. There were a few slight glitches in the recording and a couple of instances where the editors appear to have missed the reader starting a line again. I really enjoyed this performer too, he managed to add to whatever the author was getting across - drama, helplessness, foreboding, humour - despite occasional mispronunciations that I found surprising given the regularity of their inclusion in this genre (Quantico - QuanTEEco??) Nonetheless, I am chuffed to bits to have stumbled upon the wonderful Peter James and this brilliant series.
"Not for me"
I didn't complete this book. I wasn't keen on the premise nor the narration.
I'm a great believer in making up your own mind about a book but I always read the reviews. I have come to the conclusion that this is a marmite book, you either love it or hate it.
Sadly it wasn't for me.
"Great story but too long"
If this story was 20% shorter it would have been 20% better. It really dragged on. I'm not sure I'll be reading the other Roy Grace books. These are we similar to Broadchurch and the Bridge. Nothing new and exciting here but that's not to say it's a book.
