Publisher's Summary

Former SAS trooper turned undercover cop Dan "Spider" Shepherd knows that there are no easy solutions in the war against terrorism. But when a killer starts to target pardoned IRA terrorists, Shepherd has to put his life on the line to protect his former enemies.

A grief-stricken Saudi whose two sons died under torture in the name of the War on Terror is planning to avenge their deaths by striking out at two people close to Shepherd.

As the Muslim assassin closes in on his prey, Shepherd realises that the only way to save lives is to become a killer himself.

    "Terrible narrator"
How did the narrator detract from the book?

His rushed speech made it almost impossible to follow. Especially bad for characters names. Mumbling not helpful, either.

Was Dead Men worth the listening time?

Yes, because I'm listening to the whole series.

    "Good Listen"

Held my interest well. At times the narrator spoke a little too fast...but all in all I much enjoyed this selection

    "another top 'spider' Shepheard novel"

Stephen Leather has, yet again, come up trumps with this, his most recent book. Dead Men, which is the 5th novel to feature former SAS now undercover policeman Dan 'spider' Shepheard contains all the elements needed for a good crime thriller. Leather is adept at weaving multiple story lines together to form a fast, gripping pacy (and undeniably violent) roler-koster of a thriller. in my oppinion, this is right up there with Leathers other top novels and is certainly one of the best Spider Shepheard books. As well as the main character the book is populated with a number of great shady individuals, none more so than the American Richard Yokely (more about him in future books MR Leather please). This book sits right up there with thrillers written by such greats as Jack Higgins and Gerald Seymour and, in my opinion, is far superior to those being churned out by the likes of Andy Mcnab. finally, a word on the reader of this audio book. all of the previous dan shepheard novels have been read by Martyn Read and it was a nice change to hear a new voice and the reader does a great job with this book managing to pull off a large number of different voices and accents.

"Another good one from Mr Leather"

Have read and listened to all of Stephen Leather's books and enjoyed them all. This was no exception.
Excellent narration by Cornelius Garrett who does a great job on a whole host of accents and gets the pace just right.
A good book keeps you listening and this did the job for me.

Just read this book. Excellent and very much Stephen Leather's usually high standard. Highly recommended. If you like thrillers, you'll love this one.

    "This Series just gets better."

Although the story, as usual was great, I didn't really enjoy the narration too much. It seemed a little too "affected"

It always makes me laugh when the narrator sounds a little like Dame Edna Everage on steroids when trying to impersonate a female character. I thought that was the case in this audio book.

Apart from that, which only happens for some of the female characters, another great listen. Right then, as for me, on to the next one!

"Story = Good, Narrator = Annoying"
Would you consider the audio edition of Dead Men to be better than the print version?

Have not read the print version.

Who was your favorite character and why?

    Dan Shepherd; main character.

How could the performance have been better?

    Different Narrator.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No, purely because of the narrator.

    Any additional comments?

Please keep to one narrator for these series, it is incredibly annoying, especially when one narrator is as monotone and dull as this. Found it so hard to get into and ignore him.
