Publisher's summary

Detective Superintendent Roy Grace is haunted by the past in his latest case, and his private life, in Dead Man's Time, by award winning crime writer Peter James.

A vicious robbery at a secluded Brighton mansion leaves its elderly occupant fighting for her life. Millions of pounds’ worth of valuables have been stolen.

Within days, Grace is racing against the clock, following a murderous trail that leads him from the shady antiques world of England, across Europe and all the way back to the New York waterfront’s gang struggles of 1922, chasing a killer driven by the force of one man’s greed and another man’s fury.

Although the Roy Grace novels can be listened to in any order, Dead Man's Time is the ninth gripping title in the bestselling series. Enjoy more of the Brighton detective’s investigations with Want You Dead and You Are Dead.

Now a major ITV series, Grace, starring John Simm.

One of the best...

In Roy Grace series. I found Gavin to be a very believable and lovable character despite his toughness. The villains were also believable and colorful. Possibly the best thing about this being an audiobook is the marvelous reading by Daniel Weyman. I really, really disliked the reading of the NYC cops who sounded cartoonish to me...BUT all the English and Irish characters (especially Gavin) were outstanding. This series is one you can depend on to have interesting back stories and information and twists and turns that are surprising and yet credible. I don’t remember the last time the ending of a book brought me to tears but the scene at the Manhattan waterfront did it to me big time. Thanks, again, Mr. James!!

Another excellent entry in the series

I read the first eight books in paper. I decided to grab this one in audio book format. The book takes some setup time to really get going as the last few books did but once you get going it is hard to stop. Overall excellent voice work that puts in the emotions as needed. For fans of the series, don't skip this one.

Such a web James weaves!

What did you love best about Dead Man's Time?

As Peter James continues the story of Roy Grace I am loving the intriguing past snippets that he loves to dangle in front of the reader. His missing first wife...her psychiatrist sessions leave you constantly dangling. His new fiancé and their beautiful baby Noah and their fates in this story were nail biting. The main police story is fascinating and brilliantly written allowing me to enjoy the plot till the very end.

Another good Roy Grace read

Once again Peter James scores a winner! Took me a while to get into the “guts” of the storyline, but once there I was hooked. My only constructive criticism would be- there are so many characters, the reader needs a score card to keep track of everyone. The narrator was not the best, towards the end of the book, I found myself getting irritated with the voice, and wished I had the actual book, so I wouldn’t have to listen to get to the end of the story.

👍👍

Enjoyable and good listening. The story and plot was not quite the outcome that was expected, which makes the story even better.

Hooray

Yes! After a few not so exciting books Peter James has come through with a winner! The story was quite good and kept my interest. Sandy is back again but at least she has become a bit more interesting. I still am tired of her storyline.

There were shady characters galore. We meet new members of Grace's team and grieve with one of them. NYPD is involved again. What's with that attraction lately?

There was an opportunity for an amazing suspense scene. The anticipation was there. I'm not sure to be glad or sad.

Narration was okay but there were still few distinctions between characters. On to Book 10.

Brilliant as usual but one small annoyance

Loved this book as I do all in series. Generally well-performed but Roy Grace and Glen Branson's voices are too similar. This annoyed me when both were speaking.
