The Basis for the Showtime® Original Series Starring Michael C. Hall
Meet Dexter Morgan, a polite wolf in sheep’s clothing. He’s handsome and charming, but something in his past has made him abide by a different set of rules. He’s a serial killer whose one golden rule makes him immensely likeable: he only kills bad people. And his job as a blood splatter expert for the Miami police department puts him in the perfect position to identify his victims. But when a series of brutal murders bearing a striking similarity to his own style start turning up, Dexter is caught between being flattered and being frightened - of himself or some other fiend.

"A macabre tour-de-force." (The New York Times Book Review)
“A dark comedy with a creative twist.” (The Miami Herald)
“Dark and devious..Daring and unexpectedly comedic.” (USA Today)
To paraphrase a truth, if a writer guess himself as a narrator, the author is a fool. Jeff Lindsay is no fool. The book was good with delightful sentences ("For a few seconds it didn't really seem necessary to breathe."), with dynamic narration! I bought the next two books before I finished this one, it was such a delight to read!
I am all about self motivation and improvement
The depiction and description of each character and Dexter's inner monolog had me hook from the get go!
Even though I knew what was about to happen from the Tv series i was still intrigued and was amazed!
forget the film read the book!
TV show is better written. and the actors bring the characters to life far more than the words of this book do. The first book is not identical but vert similar to the events of the first season. I will not be getting any further books in this series, but will just enjoy rewatching the show on Netflix.
If you have seen the show, the first book is very similar to the first season, except with out as many fun plot twists. Its hard not to love Dexter, but I was a little dissappointed.
There are alot of irritating alliterations in this story and the narrator seemed to almost sound like he was going to chuckle when he said them. I love the concept of the story and may consider the other books but seeing as i have already watched the show...it may just irritate me more.
I got this book because I loved the show so much back when it was on and wanted to see if the books are just as good Annnd HELL YES it is! I'm getting book to right now!
Well-performed by the author, this book is just as intense as the show. It sets your teeth on edge, making you unsure of what will occur.
Jeff Lindsay does well with creating tension by holding on discomfort, making you sweat as he artfully dances around the next important detail.
Satisfying, but leaving more to be desired. On to book 2!
Kind of makes me anticipate the next full moon in Dexter sort of way. Jeff Lindsay gives good voice to the characters in this story.
