John Lutz delivers again

A solid suspenseful mystery and an unpredictable end. John Lutz has the ability to lead you where you think you know who the culprit is and wham he floors you with a surprising twist. For fans of on the edge of your seat suspense Lutz is your writer. His detectives Quinn and Pearl are wonderful and enjoyable. They are real and raw and believable. Lutz is one of ther few writers that leaves me enthralled throughout. Highly recommend for a good scare!

Amazing Suspense

What made the experience of listening to Darker Than Night the most enjoyable?

the element that authors use to try to leave the reader hanging, trying to figure out what will happen next. I hung on ever single word

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

The author did an excellent job of making me wonder what would happen next.

What does Scott Brick bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Scott Brick brought depth to the story and made the characters very believable.

Any additional comments?

I am going to be buying the next book in the series I can not wait! I would highly recommend this book to anyone that likes a good suspenseful plot

Serial Killer Needs to be Stopped

Frank Quinn has an opportunity to regain his job at the NYPD that he had been unjustly removed from. Quinn only needs to find the man dubbed, The Night Stalker. There are no clues but there are 300 million faces in NY. Whose face might be the perpetrator of these heinous murders.

This faceless man owns the night. He only kills married couples in the middle of the night. Then he slips out unnoticed into the black of night. The serial killer can't stop himself. He has started to murder couples at a rapid rate. There hadn't been such a crime for the past two years and he has once again started to search and stalk his next victims.

The novel is expertly read by Scott Brick. He is able to bring the killer alive. The killer is frightening all that are aware of his crimes. The book keeps you on the edge of your seat, waiting for the next victims to be stalked. He is mad and can't be stopped until he is caught. You will be able to know who is speaking and feel the hate that emanates from the killer.

How does Quinn and his two partner's find and begin to investigate their first clue. Will Quinn and his partner's be able to find the killer before the hammer falls and Quinn is left go. Quinn's partner's are also walking on the edge.

What has happened to create such a person? People do not turn into serial killer's without a reason, do they? Listen to this novel and you will find all the answers. You will want to keep listening because there are answers but the less you listen, the longer you will have to wait.

I would invite all of the readers of this review to purchase this book and I'm sure you'll be glad that you did. I'm going to wait before I begin another mystery. This one has caused me to have bad dreams. Therefore, I'll have to search in my library to find a different genre of book. Happy listening. I hope that you enjoy this novel as much or more than I did.

Very good story, BUT.....

I really like John Lutz, and this is an excellent story.
The problem is, most authors seem to know very little about firearms, and yet firearms are in so many stories, and are given "weight" by descriptive techniques designed to help the suspense and flow of the story.
So, it would seem to me that an author would want to know the basics of firearms, via reality, not Hollywood.
Mr. Lutz mentions in this story, more than once, about "purchasing a silencer through the mail.". That is one of the least-knowledgeable concepts I've ever run across, in a land of hollywood idiocy where people hold guns sideways and guns never runs out of ammo.
To buy a silencer [actually they are 'suppressors', not 'silencers'. 'Silencer' is an out-dated term and was never factually correct], one has to live in a state that allows ownership.
You have to buy one through a class 3 firearms dealer and then you have to be approved through the local sherriff's agency and by the BATFE, after you have filled out all the proper forms and submitted a photo and fingerprint card to the BATFE.
Mr. Lutz also mentioned that the silencer "had no serial number". All suppressors MUST have serial numbers. Upon receiving your suppressor, you are given a "tax stamp', that is, a piece of paper, a receipt, with all the information about the suppressor on it, plus your information, plus the address where the suppressor is stored. You cannot take it out of state.
When you go out to shoot with it, you MUST have your paperwork with you.
My best friend is a Class 3 firearms dealer.

WOW! Good book. Love Scott Brick Narration!

This book was really good.

The serial killer was psycho for sure. I liked the past to present giving you look at how the killer became who he was. Then the there is the twist I didn't see coming.

There was even a happy ending for a couple characters.

If you like a good serial killer detective book you will like this one.

Scott Brick is such and amazing narrator. That was the reason I got this book. I am glad I did.

I was disappointed

What would have made Darker Than Night better?

too repetitive not well organized

What three words best describe Scott Brick’s performance?

Normal scott brick

What character would you cut from Darker Than Night?

several. How many times do we have to read about the same murder in gory detail to understand it is a serial killer?

Too much

I very much enjoy modern detective novels. I enjoy listening to Scott Brick as the narrator of many of the books available on Audible. This is the first time in probably 200 books that I've enjoyed that I turned it off within the first hour of the book. Too graphic of sex, murder, thoughts of the characters, etc. In my opinion it was too much.

Nothing good about it

I kept trying to finish this book, thinking it had to get better. I bought it because it was narrated by Scott brick but even he can't save this book. Story jumps from scene to scene, character to character so quickly I found myself listening to sections over and over to figure out where we were now. On top of that the author creates a serial murderer with a murder "style" that is beyond disgusting. I have reread the positive reviews and can't believe we were reading the same book. Half way through I quit listening, counting the time I'd spent with this book a complete waste of time.
