Dark Rivers of the Heart | [Dean Koontz]

Dark Rivers of the Heart

Spencer Grant had no idea what drew him to the bar with the red door. He thought he would just sit down, have a slow beer or two, and talk to a stranger. He couldn't know that it would lead to a narrow escape from a bungalow targeted by a SWAT team. Or that it would leave him a wanted man. Now he is on the run from mysterious and ruthless men. He is in love with a woman he knows next to nothing about. And he is hiding from a past he can't fully remember.

Publisher's Summary

Spencer Grant had no idea what drew him to the bar with the red door. He thought he would just sit down, have a slow beer or two, and talk to a stranger. He couldn't know that it would lead to a narrow escape from a bungalow targeted by a SWAT team. Or that it would leave him a wanted man.

Now he is on the run from mysterious and ruthless men. He is in love with a woman he knows next to nothing about. And he is hiding from a past he can't fully remember. On his trail is a shadowy security agency that answers to no one, including the U.S. government, and a man who considers himself a compassionate Angel of Death. But worst of all, Spencer Grant is on a collision course with inner demons he thought he'd buried years ago - inner demons that could destroy him if his enemies don't first.

    "Psychos in Love"

This book takes a look at the dangers of our asset forfeiture laws in the USA. In fact, after the story is over the audiobook continues with an author interview where this topic is discussed in depth.

I found this story to be rather complex with several themes or sub-plots. It kept me quite entertained through out the whole book. As always, Koontz creates a complex villain whose twisted logic leaves you praying that nobody like them really exists.

    "Koontz Classic"

As usual Dean Koontz has written a tale of surprise and horror. It is more down to earth than some of his books which makes it more terrifying. Excellent!! A must read.

    "Good Read"

This book reminded me very much of his other book, "The Good Guy" but the lead characters were much more likable like "Odd Thomas." Interesting how the Technology can be so dated so quickly. The narration and pace were excellent. A bit unbelievable but fun reading.

    "Extreme Paranoia"

My wife and I really enjoyed this book. We are Dean Koontz fans forever. Dark Rivers of the Heart intertwines Big-Brother, high-tech, ultimate evil, innocence trampled, and the truth that freedom has a price; it is not a given. The characters are superb. The notion that "Love at first site" can happen to anyone was a wonderful twist to a story that grabs you and never lets you go, even when the book is done. We hope that there will be a sequel to this book. This is as entertaining as the Odd Thomas series, but with a lot more action. This is definitely a keeper.

    "great characters"

Another great Koontz novel. A slow start but a very exciting plot. I love the unusual characters. I wish some of the revelations had been alittle earlier to help understand the characters. This is one I will definately listen to again.

    "Great Villian"

I really enjoyed this story, The villian was someone you love to hate.
The only reason I did not give it 5 stars was cause I thought it could have done without the cheesy dreamy music in the beginning and at the end, just made it more distracting that "mysterious".

    "Riveting"

This is a fast-paced, action-packed book. It captured me from the beginning, when Spencer Clark went searching obsessively for a woman who was late for work. He'd only just met her the night before. The scenes moved so quickly, I couldn't just leave my car when I arrived at my destinations (even work); I had to wait till a lull in the action. Dean Koontz's usual dog character Rocky was thoroughly enjoyable, although I constantly worried about what could happen to him if all went wrong. This was not a book for relaxing! Once again, the author has written a good one.

    "A chilling realtime Matrix"

This is a chillingly realistic dark tale, of our ignorance.

In our search for an ideal world with standards of high moral and justice, we have made a jungle of laws. Inside this jungle a merciless state agency operates, with a 90 percent worldwide population reduction plan.....a plan for an ideal world.

The two main characters, witch is hunted through this high speed techno thriller, will give you a memorable real-time Matrix experience!
