    "Not good"

Really mediocre. I am having difficulty deciding if it is the hackneyed writing that turned me off or the overly dramatic narration and unpleasant voice of the romantic male lead. Sounds like a elderly redneck rather than a hot young cowboy. Hard to imagine the female lead would really be turned on by him. Yuck!

    "Excellent suspense and plot twists"
Who was your favorite character and why?

Marilee. An everyday woman who encountered an unbelievable situation.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

yes because the suspense was well developed and the character, especially the central character Marilee was well developed and you wanted her to "win" - find the answers she was looking for!

    Any additional comments?

    Great characters and plot twists!

If you are looking for a shallow story that becomes boring as the sexual play progresses through the pages, this might be for you.

This book was more a dang love story than anthing else. I might have enjoyed it more with out the 'obligatory' sex scenes.

moved slow at the beginning and took a while to get to the point. took longer than it should have for anybody else than the heroine to get that something was going on.

    "Very hard to finish!"

Male voices were so hard to listen to. The story is long, complicated and overpopulated with minor characters that just confuse the listener. The authors use of metaphors and analogies is just over the top. I uually like Tami Hoag's stories. This one was just not worth the time.

I love her books and it was even better because I love Joyce Bean. This is one I will probably listen to again.

"I hate this narrator, and I hate the romance"
What did you like best about Dark Paradise? What did you like least?

Best: It was entertaining, Least: You can tell this author is a romance novelist. The romance crap was driving me nuts. I wanted a mystery thriller, not some kind of whining, crying, sniveling, introspective crap on "the hard case around his heart hiding tenderness she could see" blah blah blah blah blah. It was repeated so often, I'm sure the book would've been half as long without it. I rolled my eyes more often than I can count. I also hated the narrator. You can tell she is a smoker, and she definitely is dehydrated bc you can hear the lack of spit smacking when she talks.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

Cut out more than half of the romantic lovey dovey introspection and can-see-this-line-from-a-mile-away cheesy comments.

How could the performance have been better?

Get a narrator that DOESN'T SMOKE and ISN'T DEHYDRATED. She needs to drink more water, I can't stand the smacking noises her mouth makes. I had to stop midway between sentences more than once bc I couldn't take the grating on my nerves any more.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

    No.

    Any additional comments?

    No more smoker narrators.

    "Dark paradise"

It took me a long time to get through the story with the narrator. She was ok but did a poor job on voices. I wonder sometimes if the writers hear the story before it's published. They can make or brake the book. Especially when there is a man reader for a female main character. Anyway to the book. It was by no means a thriller or mystery it's a love story which was most of the book. It was ok

"Not a Tami Hoag favorite of mine"
What would have made Dark Paradise better?

I think I might have liked it better with an abridged version or just reading it so I could skip a lot of the long thought processes of the characters that didn't exactly seem to relevant to the story. Just made it long. I generally like Tami Hoag's books but there was very little suspense, and the mystery was pretty elusive and it was more a romance novel which I'm not a fan of.

Very stereotypical characters which are almost amusing . Nevertheless it was a good listen and a versatile narrator. Having read a lot of T Hoag it was an interesting diversion from the usual. Worth the credit and a good length listen.
