Publisher's summary

New Eden, Montana, is a piece of heaven on earth where one woman died in her own private hell. Now it’s up to ex-court reporter Marilee Jennings to decipher the puzzle of her best friend’s death. But someone has a stake in silencing her suspicion. Someone with secrets worth killing for - and the power to turn this beautiful haven into a...dark paradise.

And as Mari digs deeper beneath New Eden’s picture-perfect exterior, finding the truth is suddenly no longer a matter of justice. It’s her only hope of staying alive.

3.5 Stars Mixed Feelings

This is one of Tami Hoag earliest novels, before she wrote thrillers. I consider it a romantic suspense. It has all the drama of a thriller and passion for a romantic suspense novel. Mary Lee Jennings leaves California to meet her friend Lucy in New Eden, Montana. Little did she know, she discovers her friend's dead, and learn the shocking truth of her secrets, putting herself in danger on living on a ranch life, and falling in love with a stubborn cowboy.

The book was well written but a bit too long. Too much internal thoughts of the characters, same stuff over and over again. How many times does Ms Hoag have to tell me that the character is stubborn/lonely/loyal/a misfit? I get it already! I didn't lose my memory from the prior chapter. Or the one before that, either. I would have rated this book higher if not for the annoying repetition.
Having said that Tami Hoag is one of my favourite authors and she her writing has improved in future books.

Joyce Bean was ok with the delivery of the story. Some of her voices were over dramatic and that was a bit annoying

This ruined Tami Hoag for me

My husband and I listened to the Tami Hoag Broussard series and the Oak Knolls. We decided to give this a try. While some are better than others, this one was terrible. It was more sleazy romance novel meets soft crime novel. I thought the characters were predictable, especially the main characters. The love story was so typical. Tough strong cowboy who can’t love meets a straight talking loveable city girl. There were few surprises. This book is also 15+ hours long. Way too long for this predictable story. If you like Tami Hoag don’t read this.

Excellent suspense and plot twists

Who was your favorite character and why?

Marilee. An everyday woman who encountered an unbelievable situation.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

yes because the suspense was well developed and the character, especially the central character Marilee was well developed and you wanted her to "win" - find the answers she was looking for!

Any additional comments?

Great characters and plot twists!

Not good

Really mediocre. I am having difficulty deciding if it is the hackneyed writing that turned me off or the overly dramatic narration and unpleasant voice of the romantic male lead. Sounds like a elderly redneck rather than a hot young cowboy. Hard to imagine the female lead would really be turned on by him. Yuck!

Pretty good

This book was more a dang love story than anthing else. I might have enjoyed it more with out the 'obligatory' sex scenes.

Shallow sexual exploitation

What would have made Dark Paradise better?

If you are looking for a shallow story that becomes boring as the sexual play progresses through the pages, this might be for you.

Has Dark Paradise turned you off from other books in this genre?

I'm not sure what genre Audible assigns to this work.

Which scene was your favorite?

?

What character would you cut from Dark Paradise?

SILLY AND BORING

WHEN READING THE ENTHUSIASTIC REVIEWS OF THIS BOOK AND ITS AUTHOR I HAD HOPED TO HAVE FOUND A NEW SOURCE OF INTERESTING AUDIO BOOKS. NO SUCH LUCK!
A SUBSTANTIAL PART OF WHAT I HAVE HEARD - I FINALLY GAVE UP AFTER NEARLY TWO HOURS OF BOREDOM - CONSISTS OF SILLY LONGWINDED DESCRIPTIONS OF HOW THE ARTIFICIAL PROTAGONISTS LOOK AND WHAT THEY WEAR,SUPPLEMENTED BY TIRESOME RUMINATIONS OF THE FEMALE PARICIPANTS IN THIS CHARADE ON THE MISFORTUNES AND MISTAKES IN THEIR DRAB LIVES. YUCCHH!!

poorly read.

Crude, full of mispronounced words. Guess you have to over pay if literacy is important to you.
