I love a good story and being able to broaden my literary horizons especially while I do my day to day mundane functions.

    "An homage to Agatha Christie"

This book is a bit different from previous MHC novels but different isn't necessarily bad. I felt like this was an interesting twist on classic who dunnits. The book itself reminded me a lot of the Agatha Christie novel Taken at the Flood. Fans of either writer should give this book a shot. I liked it a lot and found myself trying to find a similar book to read after I had finished this one.

    "Always a nice read"
Would you consider the audio edition of Daddy's Gone A Hunting to be better than the print version?

As a busy mom being able to have the audio version of this book was great. I was able to listen on my commute to work, while doing housework and when getting ready to go to bed. Print versions are good, but being "read to" while doing mundane chores is way better!

What other book might you compare Daddy's Gone A Hunting to and why?

It is similar to Mary Higgins Clark's other books, but I own all of them, so I guess she is doing something right.

    Which scene was your favorite?

Kate's experiences and flashes of memory while in a coma was interesting.

"Just fair - not MHC's best by far"

I was very excited to read a new MHC book but I was very disappointed with this one. The story and overall was just "fair". Had it not been for the narrator I am not sure I would have finished this one.

Not her usual plots and interesting characters at all.

The title of the book did not even seem to fit.

Hoping for more from this usually great author.

    "Not typical MHC"
What disappointed you about Daddy's Gone A Hunting?

The plot was terrible, a lot of detail in the story line that was repetitive or didn't add anything to the story.

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?

    The narrator was fine.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Disappointment. With this author you normally get lots of twists and turns, as well suspense and intrigue. That was lacking in this book.

    Any additional comments?

Save your credits, not typical MHC.

Would you consider the audio edition of Daddy's Gone A Hunting to be better than the print version?

I haven't read the print version.

What other book might you compare Daddy's Gone A Hunting to and why?

    None

What about Jan Maxwell’s performance did you like?

She was good and did great job of using voice tones to describe the characters.

    Any additional comments?

I gave the book 5 stars because I did enjoy it.The reader was good but the sentences were too long for the sentecnce to flow smoothly for any reader. Too much information was given at one time of the characters. More info could have been reveled as the story unfolded. There were too many characters with only a small role in the book but they too had too much history making it too "wordy".

    "Fun story!"

Fun story, good narration, kept me guessing til the end. Of course I'm a fan of these light mysteries & this one was another good MHC story.

"A bit disappointing compared to her other books."
What didn’t you like about Jan Maxwell’s performance?

Her voices were awful, especially the older men. At one point she switched from an Irish accent to another voice mistakenly. Not the quality I was expecting at all. I've listened to several other audiobooks recently and the voice actors were all easier on the ears.

    Any additional comments?

I really used to like Mary Higgins Clark's mysteries, but this one was not up to par. The dialogue in many instances seemed artificial, and a lot of the monologues were simply not necessary. I do appreciate that her books are always free of foul language and inappropriate sexual situations, but these characters didn't seem believable. She also focused a lot on going out to dinner, which was a bit odd. If your sister were just taken to the hospital and in a coma, would you meet a friend for dinner, or plan a date with your young trampy girlfriend? There were just some unlikely scenarios. In some instances it felt a bit like a Scooby Doo mystery. "I'll get those meddling kids...." and then the mask is pulled off the villain.

    "Interesting"
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

The book yes, but not the narrator!

What did you like best about this story?

I always like Mary Higgins Clark, she keeps you guessing to the end!

Did Jan Maxwell do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?

I thought she did well with the female voices however the male voices were horrible! They all had a whine not at all easy to listen to. I will not buy any more books with her narration.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

    No

    "Good book"
Would you try another book from Mary Higgins Clark and/or Jan Maxwell?

This was a good book; wish there more narrators (male) than just one, (which was a female) . Than you can tell if it a man talking or female.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Yes it did, I didn't know to the end of the book who was the killer, That's a classic

What aspect of Jan Maxwell’s performance would you have changed?

Yes it should have been; there should have been other person reading the male characters

Was Daddy's Gone A Hunting worth the listening time?

Yes it was, I'm listening to it again.

    Story
"No surprises but if you're a MHC fan you'll love"
Would you listen to Daddy's Gone A Hunting again? Why?

Maybe in a few years once I had completely forgotten the story.

What did you like best about this story?

I love MHC books - they're like comfort reading (listening) for me. Her books are very formulaic which is one of the things that irritate me about other authors sometimes but with MHC that is preceicely what I love about her - you know exactly what you're getting: young woman (usually in her 30's), always respectable and has a good job and is independent, gets in the middle of a plot somehow and we follow her to see if she survives it / manages to get her way out of trouble. Sounds boring but it's really not. There is something so comforting yet exciting about her books and I can never wait for the next one to come out.

What about Jan Maxwell’s performance did you like?

I love Jan Maxwell's performances in MHC books - she has narrated most of them I think and it is a voice I have come to recognise and associate with them. She is a great narrator.

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Nope, but it did make me root for the main characters.

    Any additional comments?

If you haven't tried a MHC book yet, give this one a go - you might just want to listen to them all after.
