Roll up your pant legs and bare your feet, there are barrels of grapes to crush in this hilarious fourth installment of the Malibu mystery series.
Maloney Investigation's new client? An eccentric vineyard owner convinced his even more eccentric neighbor is siphoning off his precious water. But of course it's not as simple as that. Or as dignified.
Sofia and Aidan soon find out these Merlot messiahs are turning water into wacky, plowing more than fields, and sowing more than grapes. But there's no putting the cork back in when the opposing vintner turns up naked and face down in a trough of sour grapes. Can Sofia and Aidan clear their client and unmask the killer? Or will they, too, perish in the Pinot Noir?

Love the humor and banter between Sofia and Aidan although I started getting a bit tired of the glib comebacks. The story was interesting and the activities of the characters possible. The story worked and Fred the seagull was a hoot as usual. I was glad to see Sofia getting more involved and being able to work with Aidan and even cover for his lost drone. They make an interesting team of investigators BUT I keep hoping that it will turn into more between them but still it would cause a total reboot of the story since the searching of the perfect woman is what makes Aidan so cute. Anyway, I like these stories and will be waiting for the next episode. Malibu is a beautiful place and nirvana cove is somewhere I'd enjoy living.
I don't think I would listen to the book again, because I want to read/listen to the rest of the series. I have already purchased "A" is for Actress, so I can start at the beginning.
No I have not, but the narration was enjoyable.
I really enjoyed the humor and surprises in this book. Although I can not think of just one moment, several things were not as they seemed.
I enjoyed both the authors and narrator so much I will continue catching up on the series.
I am addicted to books. Nothing makes me happier than crawling inside a good book.
I'm sure I would like them equally.
I've listened to this series with her and I love her performances. She really brings these books to life.
No, it was too long.

Really fun, entertaining and enjoyable short mystery story. Great way to spend an afternoon.
Even though this is the 4th book in the series it is a stand alone.
Hired to investigate a claim of water gone missing, the case turns into a murder mystery whodunit. While a murder mystery it's still a light, humorous and fun story.
Madeline Mrozek's narration was great. She has a voice that is easy on the ears. She didn't just read the book, she brought the characters to life.
I enjoyed this story so much that I will be reading the rest of the series soon.

"It is the business of the times to change...and the business of gentlemen to change with them." ~Amor Towles in "Rules of Civility"
I really liked this light read. The story revolves around a a murder but I didn’t feel weighed down by the listening experience. Tense, edge of your seat thrillers are great for an adrenaline rush, but having a pleasant, laughable experience is better for the spirit. The humor was clever and witty without relying on slapstick silliness, cheap sexual references, or out-and-out stupidity. Levity is inserted in the narrative in such a way to maximize appreciation. The obvious romantic tension between the two unsuspecting protagonists is, in itself, a hoot (albeit a tad bit frustrating).
Still, the story is a "who-done-it", and although I figured it out one of primary mysteries, there were enough other surprises to keep me going and guessing wrong, wrong, wrong! (Really fun way to fail.)
Just a note: I started the series with this second installment. Authors Rebecca Cantrell and Sean Black did a terrific job of keeping the story relatively independent from the first installment and seamlessly backfilling details that would have otherwise left gaps.
Madeline Mrozek’s upbeat tone and energetic pace matched the words, their context, and what I believed was the authors' intent. Her voice kind of reminds me of Samantha of the original “Bewitched” from back in the day. “Bewitch” was one of my favorites so, for me, this is a good thing (I’m not old, I’m just a rerun hound…. yeah. :-) ...)

This was a fun read about a ex-Child actress turned detective. It is perfect for young adults or a nice relaxing day at the beach. I received this book free of charge for a honest review
D is for Drunk is another amusing laugh out loud story by Sean Black and Rebecca Cantrell centering around Sofia Salgado and Aiden Maloney. She is a former child TV star who is recognized almost everywhere she goes, which sometimes hinders her new job as a Private Investigator at Maloney Investigations. Aiden is her PI partner and son of the owner of the PI business.
In this particular episode, Maloney Investigations is hired to investigate the alleged misuse of water by a neighbor. I realize it sounds ridiculous, but having lived in LA for 12 years, I can attest to the craziness and high cost surrounding water out there. Soon after they are hired, our stars are thrown together at a "key swap" party, where you are expected to swap partners for the evening, and one of the neighbors ends up dead. Like in the last book, the banter between Sofia and Aiden is what makes these books so enjoyable to listen to - it reminds me of the early Moonlighting days.
Madeline Mrozek was excellent in narrating the Audible version of this book. She brought the characters to life, using a variety of voices and giving each character their own distinct voice. Her smooth overtones and subtle character nuances made for a very enjoyable experience. I love books...I love storytelling. Audiobooks allow me to enjoy a great story while still being able to do my daily routine. Thanks Audible
I really like the main characters Aiden and Sophia. They're banter is fun and entertaining.
Told with a great mixture of witty dialog and mystery.
I chuckled so many times throughout the whole story. The Key Party was definitely one of my favorites.
Ms. Mrozek had just the right amount of snark to pull off this piece without being annoying or making the story sound silly. I'm delighted to see Ms. Mrozek narrated the first three stories as well. The only weak point in the narration is the lack of differentiation for the general-american male voices of Brandon, Aiden, Jackson, and Stark. It was hard to tell when the various characters were speaking when in the same scene. A few times, it was even hard to distinguish the narration apart from the male american voices as well.
Cantrell & Black have a very nice formula for "fun" detective stories involving a former child in Malibu, but it is Madeline Mrozek who really makes it work. Her narration is terrific and should not be missed. I highly recommend the series. Thank God for books of all kinds and ears to hear
Love this series. This was another great installment. I work with horses and honestly, it is so rare that the author gets all the horse-related facts and 'features' correct. I'm happy to say the authors did! They either know horses or really did their homework.
I was a little confused by the character Jackson but am thinking it might be more clear in the next book, which I hope is very soon! The humor is very much to my liking and the mystery is good as well, although a bit unbelievable. I don't get too hung up on that and cling to 'suspension of disbelief.'
The narration is superb as usual.
I was gifted this (lucky me!!) audiobook in exchange for an honest review.
I found this an interesting story. I hadn't actually known this was book 4 till I came to review it, I just pushed play on my phone after finishing another story today. But I found the world created here pretty easy to get into.
Madeline does a great job with the characters, putting the right sense of humour and fun into each one. Of course it's an investigation story which you really want to see through to the end by the time it really kicks in. I did wonder about the French accent though wasn't sure if it sounded like something else in my mind... could just have been me. lol
I loved the show and all the horsey extras. Cowboy or not it was great to see a show from someone elses eyes. I think I'll be checking out more in this series, because I had a great day today, with some fun and laughter. Many thanks to both author and narrator.

"Too slow going for my liking"
I found the book too slow going: I got to chapter 10 and little seemed to have happened.
It isn't my kind of book, but I would try other books by the author as I rarely like all the works of any author.
