"Dixie is a complex, well-conceived character and the plot fast-moving and believable." (Kirkus Reviews)
When I first saw the cutesy title I wasn't too sure if I was making the correct choice. Since I have loved mystery stories beginning with Nancy Drew that are solved by women I continued with my purchase. "Dixie Hemingway" is one heck of a crime solver. I cannot wait for future books. I am hooked. Oh, and despite the cute title, it's a rather dark mystery at times.

Living in Sarasota made listening to this book extra nice. It was a gripping story but light, like the "Alphabet" murder books of Sue Grafton. The book went far too fast. I am sorry that the author, Blaize Clement, died this summer. I hope Audible will record more of her books.
My niece introduced me to this witty tongue-in-cheek mystery series. Will appeal to animal lovers.
I liked this book. Would like to see more from the author. Light listening. Easy to follow plot liked the characters. Would recommend.
Hard to say but a really pleasant read.
I loved the years I lived in Sarasota! This was like a trip down memory lane for me. I loved following along the roads I knew so well. I had a Siamese cat from Nokomis who had kittens, one of whom was named Ghost by my friend in Tampa who adopted her, so I found it funny there was a cat with the same name.
Great voice for the characters. Can't imagine anyone doing it better.
Crime wave in Sarasota, Florida!!
Seriously, one book has more crime than the average year in Sarasota, Siesta Key hardly had enough going on to make the Herald.
Why isn't the whole series in audible format? It should be. I'm having to download the rest to Kindle and actually wear out my eyes reading.
This is a cozy mystery set in Florida with younger people, no mansions, and pets.
Dixie has suffered through a major tragedy and is just starting to come alive again. The details about Florida life were interesting. As a dog lover the pet angle was fun too. My only problem with the book is the way it ended. It wasn't a bad ending but it needed a couple more paragraphs. I will be reading more of these.
This book was ok, for a first in a series. I must admit, I agree with the previous poster who remarked that he felt “preached at”. I did too! The author comments, remarks, rants, and rather berates anyone that doesn’t agree with her opinions on many topics (from hand-washing to conservative talk-show hosts, to the American treatment of gays). This was a bit over-the-top!
However, the lecturing aside, the plot and mystery was rather a good one. I suspected the culprit, but didn’t know for sure. I didn’t find myself liking the main character. She held too much rage and was way too opinionated for me to be able to identify with her. Jumping and physically beating someone just for saying something she didn’t agree with.. just isn’t someone I’d care to know.
The narrator was good. I never had a problem distinguishing the speaker of the moment.
No, I wouldn’t recommend this book to any of my friends. Nor will I be buying another in the series. I just don’t care to pay to be bullied.
Yes since I suppose it's the in thing to sneer at people with differing political opinions.
I think she is probably fine, but if this is the sort of stuff she reads, I don't think I want to listen.
I'm too turned off to hunt for any.
Maybe I should stick to older mysteries.
I enjoyed her voice and she did an excellent job of portraying the heroine. I have listened to each of the books multiple times.
i liked this book because the story kept me interested and the characters were believable. well done, light entertainment. i'll be looking for more by this author
