LOVED IT!!!

I'm a huge fan of Diane Mott Davidson's books. Crunch Time is really good! I love the fact that they focused more on Goldie and Tom. Arch and Julian is getting older so not so much on them but that didnt bother me much because the story line was so well done. I cant wait until the next one!!!!
I really loved Crunch Time...

Diane Mott Davidson is ALWAYS a GOOD READ!

This story witll not disappoint you at all! I loved this book as much as I have the other books by Diane Mott Davidson. Goldy is always entertaining! I also appreciate the realistic depiction of the Episcopalian church/religion. The title is a play on words for the theme/plot. This book is worth the read. I only wish Mott Davidson would write more books! I cannot get enough of Goldy's antics.

They always get better!

What did you love best about Crunch Time?

I love rejoining Goldie and the people in her life! It is always a fun read and Diane Mott Davidson never fails to boost my appetite with her scrumptious recipes. Aunt Ferdinanda is probably my favorite part of this book. It's nice to see an older adult portrayed as vital and useful.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

The plot was excellent in this book. It's always an exciting challenge to figure at least part of it out before the end. Then, I get to feel smart and victorious! I was unable to figure out all of this one, but I had a good idea of who dunit.

Have you listened to any of Barbara Rosenblat’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I have listened to many of Barbara Rosenblat's performance. I adore her voice. Like whiskey - and yes, I equate it with the voice of Goldie! Why shouldn't a curly-haired blonde have a rich voice? I'm a straight-haired blonde with a deep, southern accent.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The part when aunt Ferdinanda proved exactly how useful and skilled she is! You go Ferdinanda!!

Fun story! Goldie was a but more snippy with Tom in this story, but he managed okay.

Not so good

I have listen to or read all of author's books and I have decided that I'll only read the next one. the narrator made Goldie too whiny, too shrill and that was unpleasant to listen to. All the female characters sounded the same so was hard to distinguish one from another. The story plot was good and I enjoyed the story but not the narration. I have liked this narrator before but might not listen to her again.

where's the plot?

I usually love Ms. Davidson's books but this one was a bit of a stinker. I thought if I had to hear one more detailed, dreary description of coffee making, drinking or otherwise enjoying coffee I would scream. So many characters, scattered plot line and jumbled mess of a book. I had to really make an effort to listen till the end.

I always end up baking and craving espresso!

Diane is wonderful at weaving murder, suspense, and wonderful food! Her description of frothing milk for a latte or espresso makes your mouth water....and the baked goods are ridiculously scrumptious! Barbara Rosenblat is one of my top 3 narrators! I love her!!!

Entertainment without Tears

Would you listen to Crunch Time again? Why?

There is something addictive about Davidson's series, a bit like sinking into a comfortable leather armchair with a cup of hot cocoa and a dash of brandy while you watch a classic movie. You won't be shocked or challenged, but you will relax into a known and perhaps even loved series of characters. I expect to return to Crunch Tim again when a need arises for an escape from the current reality in a pleasant world with just that frisson of evil to keep me from falling into lassitude.

What about Barbara Rosenblat’s performance did you like?

Rosenblat does her usual, remarkable job of bringing characters to life with different voices and rhythms. Long may she narrate!

Best yet!

My daughter, Mimi, and I are great fans of Diane Mott Davidson's books. We listen to one each road trip.
Crunch Time is the best one yet.
We thought the first one we heard so long ago was crazy but we became addicted.
This one is a little different with less Arch and very little Julian. They are growing up and changes are happening.
I really enjoyed Crunch Time.

Goldie Does It Again

I like Goldie. Not as much as I like Barbara Rosenblat's narration, but quite alot. I've been waiting for several books for her to add to her family with Tom, so it's about time!

Good story, more plausible than the last few, very well done.
