James Patterson raises the stakes to their highest level, ever - when Alex Cross becomes the obsession of a genius of menace set on proving that he is the greatest mind in the history of crime.
Detective Alex Cross is a family man at heart - nothing matters more to him than his children, his grandmother, and his wife, Bree. His love of his family is his anchor, and gives him the strength to confront evil in his work. One man knows this deeply, and uses Alex's strength as a weapon against him in the most unsettling and unexpected novel of James Patterson's career.
When the ones Cross loves are in danger, he will do anything to protect them. If he does anything to protect them, they will die.

“Michael Boatman gives a first-rate narration in this latest installment in the Alex Cross series. A second narrator, Tom Wopat, artfully portrays the homicidal maniac who plans to destroy Alex by destroying his family. Boatman captures the tension in the plot and keeps the listener engaged with the action. His portrayal of a bereaved Alex Cross--voice trembling with despair--will have listeners spellbound. And his total command of the story is like a zip line to Alex's hell. Though the symphony of terror isn't over at the conclusion of the audiobook, fans of Michael Boatman will revel in his delivery of this captivating thriller.” (AudioFile)
"[Patterson's] books don't pussyfoot around when it comes to the villains. These are bad, bad people... [I, Alex Cross] is political, with a lot of intrigue in high places." (Al Roker, The Today Show)
Having worked in courtrooms for 20 years, I love true & fictional crime. In love with Cross & Davenport. Fictional lawyer stories rule.
Cross Heart is not only my favorite Alex Cross book but is one of THE greatest books on Audible.
The end of the book ... but is it really?
Alex Cross, no doubt!
No, didn't make me laugh or cry. It scared the heck out of me as to what the next "page" would bring. The most tense part of the book was nearing the end.
Highly recommend this book! James Patterson is back! Hopefully, he threw all of those horrible writers and narrators out with the bath water.
Reading has always been my guilty pleasure. I would take stacks of books from the library. Now I listen to Audible.
OMG! What a book! When is the next one coming, I don't know if I can wait!!!
I just spent almost 10 hours listening to a book with the MOST AWFUL ending. James Patterson does not need to leave you wanting more. Any of his faithful readers would read the next Alex Cross book even with the unresolved ending of this book. I felt robbed! So if you have a spare 10 hours to devote to this book, listen to it now. If your time is more valuable, wait till the next book comes out and listen to it them.

So far, this is the most emotionally charged of the Cross Series. Not only do we see Det. Alex Cross as the meticulously organized and systematic Officer but the book depicts his human side as a loving father, husband and just one human being elated to savor the accomplishments of his family but also at a total loss after his a five-fold tragedy befell in his own household. Mr. Patterson is one author who knows how to pierce that pain center in our brain and share the misery of Mr. Cross as he helplessly deal with his tragedy and how he succumbed to a vacuum when he realized that there is nothing else out there to live or die for. But then, there is a Sequel to this book and Mr. Patterson trumps again to keep us hoping that with one stroke of his pen, the plot reverses to a complete 360 degree revolution.
I like to read and love audio books. I think Whisper Sync is amazing.
Haven't read the print.
The wonderful interlacing of two "sets" of villains.
Yes, but the voices were terrible on some points.
When Alex needed someone and she was there....
I thought the book was good. I was beginning to worry that the ending would be rushed and full of holes, then ..... What an interestingly frustrating, tantalizing, maddening concept for a story plot. It took me minute or two to get past the shock, then i had to laugh and applaud the concept. Enjoy the book it is worth the investment. The language is not so foul you cannot listen and the storyline is excellant.
I like Patterson's writing - quick chapters, characters with depth, compelling charaters. This book held to his usual style. Not finishing a mystery book in one volume is pretty irratating, so I ranked it lower than most of works I have read lately.
Of course I will read the next book!
I liked the change in voices for the different characters. It added a lot to the story.
I usually like listening to James Patterson books on Alex Cross.
My extreme reaction was when everyone in the family was kidnapped.
I like the Alex Cross series it' s one of my favorites. I was truly disappointed on the ending of the book. It was going so smoothly for it to end the way it did, I don't know about anyone else the disappointment was unbelievable. This gives me second thoughts about buying anymore Cross novels.
To have the entire story in one book!
When Alex receives photos that appear to show his family members' murders
I was not happy to discover, at the end of the book, that James Patterson had decided to publish half the story. Mr. Patterson publishes multiple books each year and I cannot believe that he had to rush the publication of this book for monetary reasons. Honestly, I would not have purchased the book had I know it's not the whole story. This type of publishing, especially without informing the purchaser, is a ploy for twice the residuals for one story line. DO NOT buy this book until Mr. Patterson gets around to completing the story.
Can/t give anything away
They are great
It made me cry!
Cannot wait till James Patterson's next book. The tease is not enough. Love, love love his Alex Cross series and have read everything he wrote. This one is true James Patterson at his very best. Cannot wait for next book.
I really enjoyed the two story lines throughout the book. I disliked the ending
When the babies are found
Capturing in the barn....
