Publisher's summary

When the home of Alex Cross' oldest friend, Ellie Cox, is turned into the worst murder scene Alex has ever seen, the destruction leads him to believe that he's chasing a horrible new breed of killer. As Alex and his girlfriend, Brianna Stone, become entangled in the deadly Nigerian underworld of Washington DC, what they discover is shocking: a stunningly organized gang of lethal teenagers headed by a powerful, diabolical man - the African warlord known as the Tiger. Just when the detectives think they're closing in on the elusive murderer, the Tiger disappears into thin air. Tracking him to Africa, Alex knows that he must follow. Alone.

Too much.

Too much unsettling content for 1 book. Not having enough breaks from the horrible happening left me uncomfortable every time I paused.

Alex Cross morphed into a moron.......

I'm only half way thru the story, and can hardly force myself to finish. The performance is excellent....as always. But what happened to the brilliant Alex Cross?

This story makes him look stupid and/or crazy.

He chases a murderer (a gang of murderers) to the most brutal and uncivilized part of Africa....where he has no knowledge of the laws, customs, and practices....where he has no support system, no authority, and no respect. And then he's surprised to find it's lawless and alien. He's surprised that he doesn't have the right to due process or any other of the constitutional rights that don't exist outside the USA.

He's chasing the worst kind of killer, the kind that makes the inner-city gang members of New York or L.A. look like boyscouts, with no gun or backup. It's too absurd.

I'm forcing myself to finish the story.....but his stupidity in this book is driving me crazy.

gotta love Alex cross

I love the way Alex is able to figure out who did what on the fly but most of all once he has time to calm down and think and rest and step back he is able to organize his thoughts and put all the pieces together.

Cross fan

I love the Alex Cross series and I have started listening to the series in the car when I drive to showings (I'm a real estate agent). Interesting having part of the story in Africa. Sad too

Terrible narration the inflection and pacing are just hard to listen to. Super distracting from a good story

Cross Country, should read, Cross International

Having followed Alex Cross through all of his cases and adventures, I was mildly disturbed to find him traveling to Africa after a perpetrator. He was completely out of his league and the torture and indignities he was subjected to was excessive. I don't know what the authors reasons were to subject his readers to the human sufferings of the African social-political atmosphere but we get plenty of exposure from CNN and other news agencies, without buying a book from what had been a favorite author, to only find we have been used as an outlet for his soap box on human issues. I'll be very careful about what I read from this author in the future.
