Publisher's summary

The Leonides are one big happy family living in a sprawling, ramshackle mansion. That is until the head of the household, Aristide, is murdered with a fatal barbiturate injection.

Suspicion naturally falls on the old man's young widow, 50 years his junior. But the murderer has reckoned without the tenacity of Charles Hayward, fiancé of the late millionaire's granddaughter.

Excellent for anyone interested in psychology

Agatha Christie’s genius has always lain in her singular understanding of human nature, and this is a prime example. This book is less about situational facts and more about emotions and motives. I suspected quite literally everyone, so I can’t say it was a SURPRISE at the end—but up until the moment of the reveal, it really could’ve been anyone. I really liked the choice of Charles Hayward as a narrator! Hugh Fraser is, as always, second to none.

Surprise ending

This book kept me guessing and in the end I was totally surprised by who was guilty. Typical intriguing and memorable characters associated with Christie. The reader is extraordinarily talented giving different voices to each character so they come alive.

Convoluted with weak voicing

Of all the Christie I have read, I believe this is the weakest of the bunch. It's difficult to care about the characters - they are weakly devised. But, it certainly didn't help the work of Hugh Fraser is abysmal. He has difficultly distinguishing between characters - I was often lost as to what was going on, and who was talking to whom. There was a distinct lack of flavor.

Great who-dunit story.

A little slow in the beginning but it picks up & is a great mystery.

Absolutely loved this book!

What made the experience of listening to Crooked House the most enjoyable?

I loved this book! I would absolutely recommend this book to anyone, especially those who enjoy Christie. While this wasn't the typical Poirot story from Christie, I found it just as good as any of her others. She had me completely confounded as to "whodunit", right up to the end.

Great Mystery

A very well done "who-done-it?" story. Nothing is hidden from the reader as the book moves towards is startling finish.
