Publisher's summary

At a Mexican roadblock, a U.S. Embassy SUV is stopped at gunpoint, three of its passengers murdered, and a fourth kidnapped. Everything points to the drug cartels, especially when the kidnappers say they will return the hostage if a cartel kingpin is released from U.S. federal prison.

But when word gets to Charley Castillo and his group of “retired” spies and special operators, they have their doubts. Fresh from having enraged the Kremlin by staging a covert raid in Venezuela that nabbed not only high-value Russian agents but also a highly prized secret Russian aircraft, they start connecting the dots. They believe that it’s a diversion. That the murders and kidnapping were ordered by none other than Vladimir Putin himself to lure Castillo and company to their deaths. And the thing of it is, even knowing that may not save them. Powerful forces in the U.S. government are arrayed against them as well, and if one side doesn’t get them... the other side will.

Filled with Griffin’s trademark rich characters and cutting-edge drama, this is another exceptional novel in an exceptional series.

Prolong the suspense: listen to another Presidential Agent thriller.

Not what I'm used to from W.E.B.

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

I listen every day going and coming from work. I also listen every morning while walking the dog. I was not entertained, but captured. If the idea of the book was to get someone pizzed off, it worked!!

Has Covert Warriors turned you off from other books in this genre?

I think I will wait to see what others have to say like I should have on this one. Griffin is one of my favorite authors and I have read EVERY BOOK OF EVERY SERIES of his books.

Which character – as performed by Dick Hill – was your favorite?

Dick Hill is one of my absolute favorite readers and if not for him, I would have stopped this book and listened to my wife instead!! Although the main character is Castillo, and you might think he would stand out; just the opposite, he kind of lurks in the background and the others aren't much better. If I had to choose one, I'd say Max the dog as he never said anything, but was a great character.

Could you see Covert Warriors being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

Definitely not!!

Any additional comments?

The ending was terrible; the book kind of stopped. I can see a sequel because the President is such an A-hole. No one stood up to him, including his Cabinet or DOD. If I were in his cabinet, I'd have told him to stick it where the sun don't shine and resigned.

Covert warriors

This is not the best book but it definitely deserves a five star rating due to the story line and narration. It is great and I love the series.

Series should be read in order

All the books in the series are enjoyable, and lots of twists, turns and action.
However, too much time is given to the history in previous books in the series.

Great series

Dick Hill is, as usual, a great reader and the story line is both complicated and easy to follow - does that make sense? Start with the first book in the series and you will be hooked

Glad I didn't skip this one

Would you consider the audio edition of Covert Warriors to be better than the print version?

I was reluctant to buy because of the other reviews , but I'm a huge Dick Hill fan , so I gritted my teeth and went for it and wow I'm sure glad I did . I skipped the prior book simply because Dick Hill didn't do it . Now on to the final book ... Hate to see Charlie , Max and , Lester go , because I'm thinking this will be the final audio book for this series .

Which character – as performed by Dick Hill – was your favorite?

Charlie of course , but I always enjoy Gen Mcnabb .

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

When it was reviled that the the 2 secret service agent was actually Russian plants

Any additional comments?

I would like to see mixing of characters from prior books into this series , I personally think there is room for ole Killer McCoy in this one !!!!

Another classic from W.E.B Griffin.

What made the experience of listening to Covert Warriors the most enjoyable?

Covert Warrior is the 7th book in the Presidential series. It is well worth the read. Same great character development. Sa,e great plot development. Covert Warriors is a fun enjoyable read. It is also very Understandable to those non military types out there. I would suggest reading the whole series.Although WEB Griffin fills you in on some of the past stories and adventures, it is much more enjoyable reading the series from start to finish. Finally WEB Griffin has a great sense of humor, which he portraits in his chanters. Wonderful read.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Well of Course Lt. Col. Charlie Castillio is my favorite character. He is serious, funny, works hard, leads the group and is respected by all but a few., and feared ny many.

What does Dick Hill bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I especially enjoy the way WEB Griffin incorporates the current name of the Secority of State (or back dated a few years. This really allows readers to relate to characters as "Real people" instead of fictional characters.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

n/A

Any additional comments?

Dick Hill did a wonderful job reading this book. Hill and Griffin are a great team.

Needed more action

Not enough action written into story line. Other books in series had more action in them

Disappointing

What did you like best about Covert Warriors? What did you like least?

I've followed the Charlie Castillo series since its inception. This novel seemed to have a

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

One of Griffin's strengths is character development. Where that was present in this book, it was cut and pasted from previous volumes.
Second, the language was over the top - or more accurately- in the sewer. It was so difficult to listen to, I had to turn it off a few times just to take a break. (Some is expected, but this? Come on.) Much of the foul language had nothing to do with the story. It was petty and not in keeping with the consistency of the other books in the series.
It was no longer fun: it became a chore. I don't read fiction for the intellectual challenge, but if I need chores, I'll check the honey-do list.

Do you think Covert Warriors needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

The Castillo series should continue, but I would encourage that Griffin returns to his original principles and style.

Any additional comments?

I hope the next one isn't as flat. It's unlikely that I'll invest in another book by this author.
