Publisher's summary

At a Mexican roadblock, a U.S. Embassy SUV is stopped at gunpoint, three of its passengers murdered, and a fourth kidnapped. Everything points to the drug cartels, especially when the kidnappers say they will return the hostage if a cartel kingpin is released from U.S. federal prison.

But when word gets to Charley Castillo and his group of “retired” spies and special operators, they have their doubts. Fresh from having enraged the Kremlin by staging a covert raid in Venezuela that nabbed not only high-value Russian agents but also a highly prized secret Russian aircraft, they start connecting the dots. They believe that it’s a diversion. That the murders and kidnapping were ordered by none other than Vladimir Putin himself to lure Castillo and company to their deaths. And the thing of it is, even knowing that may not save them. Powerful forces in the U.S. government are arrayed against them as well, and if one side doesn’t get them... the other side will.

Filled with Griffin’s trademark rich characters and cutting-edge drama, this is another exceptional novel in an exceptional series.

Prolong the suspense: listen to another Presidential Agent thriller.

Great series so far but the ending was half baked

it was like W.E.B. was tired of writing the series and just wanted the book to end and the last few chapters might as well have been "everyone lived happily ever after the end."

A disappointment

Very disappointed in this book. Rambling and repetitive at times. Ending leaves you hanging. No conclusion to the story.

Great story, Great production and Dick Hills performance was magnificent

Well for those of us who have read all of the President agent series, the frequent recall of prior events, which were indelibly inked in my brain, was a little lame but for the first reader taking up this book, they should start with the first Book and go in order.

It is New years Eve 2023 and I enjoyed reading this book for the second time. The narration was particularly outstanding.with the ability to switch to different characters [particularly Svetlana and Pessner). Brother it was strange because I felt that it was being written with our current President and staff! Again, thanks to William Butterworth IV for great story that had been very difficult to write.

Get a life

What did you love best about Covert Warriors?

Ignore the "disappointed" reviews. If you are reading the series, this book is better than many. Note the 4.0 rating. That is very high in the Audible scale. Yes, he repeats some context, and probably more than he needs to. Live with it.

GREAT SERIES

What did you love best about Covert Warriors?

This is the seventh book in a great series. I can't wait till number eight comes out.

What did you like best about this story?

All of it. Who would have thought a sixty six year old woman would fall in love with a covert action type series like this. Well I'm hooked

Which scene was your favorite?

Any scene where Charlie shows up the ambassador is great. He is such a pompous stuffed shirt.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

I have no idea.

Any additional comments?

Everyone should give this a chance. I've been trying to get my sons to try it.

Presidential Agent Series

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

Good listen for the entire 7 books, interesting people, locations, a number of switches of the plot. Did not enjoy the constant reviewing of what had happened to date. I understand bringing you up to date from book to book, but sometimes lengthy reviews were made just bringing in a new character. Irritating. The ending of book 7 left a lot of questions left unanswered, was there a real plot against the president? who was involved? What happened with Generals Naler and McNab? Castillo had a particularly nasty attitude towards Svetlana in book 7-did they continue working (and playing) together? Is this a set-up for Book 8?

If you’ve listened to books by W. E. B. Griffin and William E. Butterworth before, how does this one compare?

This is the first Griffin series I have listened to.

Which character – as performed by Dick Hill – was your favorite?

Castillo, although strong in many ways, also had many imperfections to his character, was played well by Dick Hill. The narrater in book six seemed to change personalities of some characters (more so than just voice variances) seemed less interesting in comparison to Hill's performance.

Was Covert Warriors worth the listening time?

A 7 book series is going to have periods of lower intensity, but overall, I enjoyed the entire series. Personally, I would like to have seen some loose ends tied up a little better at the end.......but , I understand that does tend to make one more anxious for book 8.

Great story

Held my interest throughout. Better than book six in series and looking forward to the next and last one in series.

A bit confusing

I was a bit lost in the story. I can’t say for certain if it was me or my devices causing me to miss chapters but the story didn’t flow. Maybe it was goes it was written. To add to this and I’m not sure if it’s me again or not, it did not seem like the chapters D. Miller announced and the chapters digitally displayed aligned. I was pleased the flashbacks were just right and sometimes written in conversation form between two characters. That was a nice change.

I’m still a fan and look forward to listening to the remaining stories as long as D.Miller is narrating.
