Publisher's summary

Anne Murphy is smart, gorgeous, and young, the red-headed rookie at the Philadelphia law firm of Rosato & Associates. She leaves town for Fourth of July weekend to prepare for a high-profile trial, but when she buys her morning newspaper, her own photo is plastered all over the front page. And the headline, "Lawyer Murdered", supposedly refers to her. Anne sets out to find her killer, playing dead in order to stay alive.

She tries to go it alone but quickly realizes that she'll have to trust people she barely knows; colleagues who hate her guts, a homicide squad who wants her out of the crime-fighting business, and a new love who inconveniently happens to be opposing counsel. The investigation takes all of Anne's boldness and ingenuity, plus a pair of red satin hot pants. But her knack for courting trouble makes it almost impossible for Anne to play well with others, defend the lawsuit, and fight her urge to sleep with the enemy. Then an unexpected event places her in lethal jeopardy and leaves her with everything to lose, including her life.

A good time!

This was the first Lisa Scottoline book that I "read" and it hooked me! Her characters are fun, wiity and likeable. I've heard several of the abridged books read by Kate Burton, but non compare to the unabridged versions read by Barbara Rosenblat. If you like law mysteries give this a try!

Excellent book!

I loved this book! Very intriguing story, although a bit far-fetched on how real legal cases unfold. If you are even a little bit interested in the law, you will like this book. I liked the main character, the "bad guy", and the "good guys." I liked how the all woman law firm backed their associate and helped her in her time of need. I especially liked her "free thinking" and butt kicking in court. It was a very good listen/read, and I will definitely download more books by this author.

Terrible Narrator

I loved the characters and story, but the narrator was terrible. Her accents were terrific, but she slurped, swallowed, etc all through the reading. It truly took away from the book. I would love to hear another by this author, but definitely not if it has the same narrator. It was too annoying to repeat.

Not bad

This story was okay but a little predictable. Since it is short, it is good for a quick listen and for something to pass the time while driving.
Would recommend for a good, quick listen. Just don't expect a major mystery here.

Annoying

I found myself cheering for the bad guys. I wanted anybody to kill Anne Murphy. I read the book to the end so that I could write this review. If you are really bored and this is your only choice, read it. If you are a fan of better authors (Grisham, Turrow, Evanovich) you will be disapointed in this weak, stupid, annoying heroine. It does have a nice twist at the end, if you can stand it long enough to get there.

Still issues with this performer

She read at least one other book in this series and it seems, though this story was better than the other, that she has her mouth full of food...or gum!!

Fabulous Scottaline Read!!! More great Associates!

I LOVED IT!!! Great Bennie & Associates read! This puts beautiful, red-headed, Anne Murray in the lead role as the attorney 4 a client called Chipster. The owner of Chipster is a sleaze, a former boyfriend is trying 2 kill Anne, her absentee mother shows up, Anne finally has a love interest, & Anne finally has "girlfriends". The narrator does a super job!! I really like voice for the Associates! ENJOY!!

Banal

After the first 30 minutes which promised interest ( I gave this travesty one star so the powers-that-be wouldn't think I had skipped that step--it deserves zero stars), this was the worst written piece of trash I have ever listened to (and I have stuck with some junk); actually, I could not stand listening to the last 45 minutes and just quit. Happily I had something better to turn to: Wodehouse's 'A Damsel in Distress' which is marvelous. So your choice is clear: do you want to listen to a cliche ridden piece of nonsense or a classic.
