Publisher's summary

Bennie Rosato, the founder of the Rosato & DiNunzio law firm, hides her big heart beneath her tough-as-nails exterior, and she doesn't like to fail. Now a case from her past shows her how differently things might have turned out.

Thirteen years ago, Bennie Rosato took on Jason Leftavick, a 12-year-old boy who was sent to a juvenile detention center after fighting a class bully. Bennie couldn't free Jason, and to this day it's the case that haunts her. Jason has grown up in and out of juvenile prison, and his adulthood hasn't been any easier. Bennie no longer represents those accused of murder, but when Jason is indicted for killing the same bully he fought with as a kid, she sees no choice but to represent him. She doesn't know whether or not to believe his claims of innocence, but she knows she owes him for past failures - of the law, of the juvenile justice system, and of herself. Forced to relive the darkest period of her life, Bennie will do everything in her power to get the truth - and justice.

Very well done

I couldn't see a good ending for this story but Scottoline always surprises me with a great resolution. I also liked this narrator from word one. Her voice is just perfect and the narration that follows does not disappoint. Great book.

Couldn't put this Down

I loved the characters of this book. I was riveted during court scenes. I could see each character. Did sleep until 4AM-could not stop listening. Thank you Lisa!

Best of the three!

Would you listen to Corrupted again? Why?

I wouldn't listen to the book again, but I just don't do that generally. There's too many new books out there!

What does Kate Burton bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I loved her as the voice of Benny.

A little cliche but well developed characters

If you could sum up Corrupted in three words, what would they be?

Kept you wanting to find out, figure out , what exactly had happened. How the main protagonist had gotten to this awful place. Worth listening to while driving. Could've done w/o the lame romance. Definitely true to culture/ways of seeing things in the Philly area.

Another hit by Scottoline

Thoroughly enjoyed being immersed in the world of Bennie Rosato once again. As always, I was captivated until the very end!

Scottolini Delivers

Love her writing! Even if it gets predictable, she finds a way to weave you through unfamiliar territory!

Not a Rosato and Associates book

I had expected this (probably my mistake for not reading the summary closely) to be a Rosato and Associates story. It was not. So that was a little jarring. But as a stand alone story, it was enjoyable and untaxing to listen to. Characters were simple and not hard to figure out. Some of the events were predictable, but I guess they really happen, which is what makes them predictable.

SPOILER ALERT: if you haven't read (or listened) to the book, stop reading now!

I believe the author was factually incorrect about Florida paternity law. Based on what I've read, if the parents are married at the time of birth, that establishes paternity legally. Even if biologically the child is from a man outside the marriage, the law sees the married parents as the legal parents. So if that's correct, the story hinges on a factual error. That's minor and can be ignored in the context of a fiction story, but because Lisa Scottoline started life as a lawyer and writes about the law in her novels, I hope I'm wrong and she did do her research.

It's about time

This was a very good listen, one of Scottoline's best. About time to give Benny a partner.
