Publisher's summary

NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • Karin Slaughter, author of the bestselling Will Trent novels, is widely acclaimed as “one of the best crime novelists in America” (The Washington Post). Now she delivers her first stand-alone novel: an epic story of a city in the midst of seismic upheaval, a serial killer targeting cops, and a divided police force tasked with bringing a madman to justice.

Atlanta, 1974. It’s Kate Murphy’s first day on the job, and the Atlanta Police Department is seething after the murder of an officer. Before the day has barely begun, she already suspects she’s not cut out to be a cop. Her male uniform is too big, she can’t handle a gun, and she’s rapidly learning that the APD is hardly a place that welcomes women. Worse still, in the ensuing manhunt, she’ll be partnered with Maggie Lawson, a cop with her own ax to grind (and a brother and uncle already on the force)—a strategy meant to isolate Kate and Maggie from the action. But the move will backfire, putting them right at the heart of it.

Cop Town is an incredibly atmospheric nail-biter from the author the Huffington Post called an “exemplary storyteller” and “one of the great talents of the twenty-first century.”

Maybe her best yet!

Honestly, I'm a Karen Slaughter fan, but this story pulled me in so deep. It felt like I was transported back in time and getting a multifaceted view of the struggles and tensions that defined the era. The story was fast paced and engaging, as you'd expect from her.

A great introduction to her brand of storytelling if you're a little daunted about starting a series of books.

Just moved it to #1 in my favorites list!!

This story showed another side of cops in the 70’s, rich characters with live that intertwine with their jobs. Totally recommend to anyone that likes a good co story. Karin Slaughter and Kathleen Early did a fantastic job on story and narration looking up their other books to use my credits on. I can see why they made Will Trent a tv show!!!!

Language

I hess. the foul language was to reflect the atmosphere/ culture. The cops I know do not use Foul language.

An Oldie But Goodie

Somewhat dated and politically incorrect, this book is really a good read. I devoured listening to it in two days and did little else. Highly recommend.

another good read

It was a little slow at first but picked up about halfway through. The narrator was great.

Good story good plot.

The story was pretty good. Lots of credit for keeping the suspect a secret until the end.
I would rather have read a paper book, though! The narrator was a little too much from my liking.

Outstanding

My son is detective so I was a little apprehensive about reading this. Based on the Will Trent series, I also felt she would handle it without bias. So, my love KS’s books one out. I’m so glad it did. This was really well done. I have so much respect for the women who paved the way in so many fields, but particularly in law enforcement. Their natural empathy and strength is a greatly needed balance. I’d love for this to become a series. Thanks again KS!

Another hit

The only bad thing is there’s no more! I want more from Kate and Maggie!!
If I could I’d have every book read to me by Kathleen Early, she is the absolute best!

Great book!!

What made the experience of listening to Cop Town the most enjoyable?

The era.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Kate. She is a lot tougher than she, and everyone else, thinks she is. I really liked Gail, too. She is a riot!! Maggie is too weak. She needs to stand up for herself.

Have you listened to any of Kathleen Early’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Yes. She does a good job with Karin Slaughter's books.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

YES!!

Any additional comments?

I would like to see more books about these people.
