Still loving it

This is probably one of my favorite books in the series. Not only do we meet Louise but we get to watch Eve grow into a more rounded individual. And you have to love her reaction when Roarke suggests they could start a family! I love when those two talk about kids and babies!

Eve and Roarke hit the wall and come out the other side

Being new to the Eve Dallas series this yea, I am enjoying the series a lot. It can feel a bit same/same if I overdose on more than one at a time but I am enjoying all the relationships Eve is building. I do love Roarke and Mavis and Peabody the best of the character who aren't Eve.

I sometimes want to smack Eve for some of her behaviour toward the people who love her but in this novel she really "gets" that she has people. Who she has become is so tied up with what she is - a great cop "standing for the dead" - that this particular story is truly harrowing. It costs her and those around her dearly.

It is a creepy story which I know will have its basis in reality because it seems like we have all been waiting for the scientists to come up with just this scenario.

I won't spoil it by saying any more. I have had two weeks off and am ready to go again.

My enjoyment of the books is, I know, doubled because of the expert work of Susan Erickson. Her narration, voices and pacing are superb.

Susan Erickson rules in Dallas' Books

I can't even imagine a better (or different) narrator doing Eve Dallas in the "In Death" novels by J.D.Robb (i.e.: Nora Roberts). She gives exquisite detail to each and every character and you wonder how one woman can do this. I never wonder who is speaking, unlike so many other narrators.

As to the plot..well it's typical Eve Dallas..and the publishers synopsis does a fair job of giving readers the basic outline, so I won't go into detail.

You know that, if you follow these books..in the high 30's now, you'll buy it..and if now..do start with number 1and rad them in order-they build on each other.

A few wishes...Eve should, by now, not fe so fearful of public displays of affection with Rourke...it's gotten old. Nor with the PDA between Peabody and McNab. It's been, like, 20 books by now. Get over it Eve. They're a couple and Peabody isn't you..she isn't afraid of her sexuality nor of McNab's kookieness. (Hows that a word from the 70s?)

And, I wish, all the therapy Eve has done with Dr. Mira had given her closure on her past. 15+ books ago she found her mother and went thru a big dramatic closure..what happened? (Dallas in Dallas or something similar) Most of the characters grow in this series-except Eve. And why not? Aren't we constant readers ready for Eve to freaking grow up? Many of us have had troubled pasts and we've worked our way thru them. Nora-honey-hear me??????

Roberts need to find some different hooks for Eve..not that I'll quit reading, but sometimes I get tired of the same old same old.

How about you?

You do know that, if you're a steady reader of the series you've already bought the book.

Gripping

Robb hits us hard with this one. Our Eve is pitted against a group of doctors in this episode plus an envious beat cop who has had it in for Dallas since the academy days. Getting too close to the truth, the group uses the disgruntled cop to get Eve out of the way. Having her badge taken away is the worst possible thing that could happen to Eve. Everyone knows it's just a bunch of bull but procedures must be followed. Roarke refuses to let "his cop" wallow in selfpity and rouses her to fight back. Look out everyone, Eve is about to go rogue. She's getting her badge back!!! Gripping and emotional, a must read.

Nora and Susan. I'm addicted.

This is by far my favorite series of books I've ever read in my 54 years. And trust me, I've read a lot. The story lines are beyond entertaining!! And SUSAN, you are a master! Your voices make me laugh, make me cry and make me feel. I hope to be able to savor the rest of the series over the next year but at the pace of two a week..... probably not gonna happen!!! I bless you both for bringing entertainment to my drives between OKC and KC. There are times, I even drive around a bit more just to finish the chapter…

Excellent character development for Eve.

The heart wrenching scenario of Eve being temporarily stripped of her badge shows us that she can weather any storm. It also showed us that Eve learned that while important, her life was more than that badge.
