For years, Mitch Rapp's bold actions have saved the lives of countless Americans. His battles for peace and freedom have made him a hero to many, and an enemy to countless more. In the tangled, duplicitous world of espionage, there are those, even among America's allies, who want to see Mitch Rapp eliminated. They have decided the time has come.
Now, the powerful father of a dead terrorist demands vengeance in its simplest form, an eye for an eye, and Rapp instantly becomes the target of an international conspiracy. This time, he must use all of his vigilance and determination to save himself before he can turn his fury on those who have dared to betray him.
Consent to Kill takes listeners behind the headlines and catapults them to the front lines of the global war on terror. It sizzles "with inside information, military muscle, and CIA secrets" (Dan Brown). Vince Flynn mixes military technology with his exclusive knowledge of Washington politics to create a hero that Americans will wish existed outside the realm of fiction.

"He perfectly measures all of the ingredients for a fast and furious read." (Publishers Weekly)
This was my first Vince Flynn novel - talk about a great escape while jogging in the morning dark! George Guidall is the best reader I've heard, bar none. I would even listen to him read the phone book! Thanks to both for helping me keep in shape!
George Guidall is the best.
by the way I'm Saudi National. I think Mr. Flynn did well capturing the saudi culture and mentality, however he needs to consult Saudis to perfect the story more :)
I will be happy to assist ... of course free of charge :P
The last scene. so moving
yes. almost cry and laughed many times
i suggest that the publisher mention and the end of the audiobook that this book is Book 6 part of Mitch Rapp series and followed by Act of Treason (book 7) . i'm using my cellphone to listen to book. but after I finish i don't know what book is the next.
71-year-old grandmother who has been an avid reader all my life. I have recently retired from being a litigation attorney (for Plaintiffs).
It is not surprising that Terrorists have discovered the existance of the CIA's most accomplished assasin, since he has done such a good job of eliminating the worst of the worst. It is a little surprising that many of the politicians in the US would like to see him go, one way or the other. It is also a little surprising to see how politicians with personal agendas often can weaken the US position against terrorists by inadvertantly (or intentionally) providing terrorist nations with the exact information they need to place them in a better position to advance their terrorist plots. Once again Vince Flynn has provided an excellent backdrop to these two themes with Mitch Rapp smack dab in the middle of everything. This time he has a personal vendetta as well as his CIA directive to send him after the "bad guys."
One thing I should mention: this ebook is really long (more than 17 hours). I personally like longer books, because the detail is much better and they are great for in my car when I travel. If you do not like long books, you may want to go for the abridged version. I suspect it is just as enjoyable. Of course, the fact that George Guidall is narrating helps with the lengthy details. I could listen to him read the New York telephone directiory and find it enjoyable. One thing about this series. Somehow, Flynn manages to make each one different, not just a rehash of the previous terrorist/assasin book. He abandons the "rules" about not killing off major players and he manages to keep each plot fresh with new twists. His books are rarely predictible, because his detail in each book changes, leaving the listener feeling like each one is his first Flynn/Rapp rendition. He also repeats several of the main characters in each book, leaving the listener with a feeling that he knows everyone in the group.
I highly recommend (5 stars which I rarely do) for both avid fans and newbies. There is enough of a summary of prior books to make the series completely understandable, but not overly repititious.
I love espionage, legal, and detective thrillers but listen to most genres. Very frequent reviews. No plot spoilers! Please excuse my typos!
This novel, Consent to Kill, was Book 6 in the series until Vince Flynn much later wrote American Assassin and Kill Shot to cover the earliest part of Rapp's career. It is notable in part because it is the first novel in the series to have the Audible audiobook version released at the same time as the hardcover version in 2005. In Consent to Kill Mitch Rapp himself is the target of assassination attempts by terrorists and governments. The novel is, like all of Vince Flynn's books, a classic espionage/spy thriller written by THE master of the genre. Narration by George Guidall is perfect!
I enjoyed the story and the reader.
Mitch Rapp, of course!
I enjoyed his cadence and inflections with the different characters.
I listened to this book while traveling and although it wasn't in one sitting, it made me look forward to the next part of my trip so I could continue the story!
I am a registered nurse and a father of four great kids. I live in a rural part of Oregon and love it. I enjoy books, but Sci-Fi Fantasy has allows been the ones I reach for more than others.
Yes, the Mitch Rapp series is easily recommendable to anyone who enjoys suspense and spy like novels. Even though to action is not "life-like" in reality being in an altered universe its okay. If you like Bourne or Bond you will like Rapp.
Rapp's setting up of Ross. The way he and Irene hid some of the evidence related to the main event in the story and then for Irene to have a press conference related to her resignation as CIA director only to throw mudd on the Vice President-elect's face is just funny.
Then for Irene to have the balls enough to poison he in a meeting with the President and Secretary of State in the Oval Office at the White House - awesome, just awesome.
Easy, Clear, and Concise
If you like you can get away with fixing an election...think again.
The Mitch Rapp chronicles continue well with this book. Good story with some interesting twists that I didn't see coming. The performance is good as well.
Seeking the Truth
I rarely read or listen to a book twice, but I might make an exception with Consent to Kill. It has everything a first-rate thriller contains: a good pace; the perfect narrator (George Guidall); the pompous Director of National Intelligence who, along with his powerful and unethical cohorts, will stop at nothing to fire Mitch Rapp from the job he lives for; the nearly perfect CIA Director Irene Kennedy, Rapp's boss, who knows Rapp's strengths but is forced to cover for his weaknesses, perhaps to her own detriment; the two-person team of assassins who are equal to Rapp in intelligence, instincts and ability to kill and who are paid millions to take Rapp down; and the wife who is Rapp's equal in marriage and for whom Rapp begins to see a life outside of chasing terrorists around the globe as his body starts to forsake him from the wear-and-tear he has forced upon it year after year.
There are several good characters in this novel, but, after all, the story is about Mitch Rapp, so he has to be the favorite. He is an assassin, straight-up, and rarely conflicted about what he does because he so believes in his cause and his country. He is not a touchy-feely kind of man trying to get in touch with his feminine side; he kills the bad guy and then moves on to the next. But his relationship with his wife shows a side we forget about sometimes: that Rapp is a principled and honest man who wants to love and be loved, just like the rest of us.
The very last scene with the two-person assassination team.
The Heart of the Assassin.
This is my 8th in the series and this one made me root for Mitch to get even. Well read, George is easy to listen to and adds enough vocal differentiation to his presentation to make it interesting. I always find it difficult, no matter who the narrators are to not laugh at least once at the execution of the opposite sex's voice. However on this one George does it pretty well. For me, the tell tale sign of a good book and read is if I don't want to stop listening even after I reach my destination.
