Another Scott Pratt novel; another winner!

Novel 5 in Scott Pratt's Joe Dillard series is great, as were the prior four. Pratt writes wonderful legal/suspense/action thrillers. Tim Campbell does his normal perfect job of narrating.

I highly recommend this series.

UGH!

Check-it.... I was a Scott Pratt fan - studding his earlier 4 Joe Dillard books with lots of stars. But this mess was phoned in. Okay, every best selling writer goes dry occasionally so I may give Pratt another chance (after carefully reading reviews) - but this is a warning... PASS ON THIS MESS! The plot's dumber than than dumb, and frankly I'm tired of Tim Campbell giving most characters George W. Bush West Texas accents. These things are set in Tennessee FGS!

Nope, won't include a bunch of spoilers here for two reasons, some might buy this thing and not figure out the whodunnit five minutes in, and secondly there'd be so many just-plain-stupid plot points to comment upon that I'd quickly run out of space and reader attention spans.

Sadly, I've already downloaded another Joe Dillard book along with this one (that's how much I enjoyed these novels) so I don't know whether to return it unread or hope that "Conflict of Interest" was a temporary conflict of the uninteresting and that Pratt's imagination recovers in future novels.

Regardless... listen to his earlier books and avoid this disappointment. UGH!

Oh, a last point... and this is a semi-spoiler alert... Dillard's overarching driver until this novel was his integrity. Inexplicably, Pratt debases that strength by setting Dillard to beating an innocent man senseless and senselessly. The deliberate violation of due process added nothing to the plot and in fact contradicted what integrity the narrative and Dillard had earned. It's unimaginable that this scene was included by Pratt then retained by his editor. Surely the villain would have, at his trial, reveal Dillard's repugnant role in that event leaving him justly prosecuted, disbarred, and ruined.

Did I say "UGH?"

Disappointing... Dillard's Integrity Discarded!

This story lacked a lot, in my opinion. I love the Joe Dillard's stories so much that I just knew the storyline would pick-up and take an unexpected twist and save my overall disappointment. I should have listened to Ted of Lancaster's warning and "passed on this mess!"

Dillard is hired to find a missing child, but it did not develop into a compelling story. The return of his wife's disease (cancer) and the unexpected appearance of Dillard's thought-to-be-dead father did not elevate the story. But Dillard was push over the edge emotionally.

A constant throughout this series is Dillard's integrity which was discarded in this story. As Ted of Lancaster said, "Pratt debases that strength by setting Dillard to beating an innocent man senseless and senselessly. The deliberate violation of due process added nothing to the plot and in fact contradicted what integrity the narrative and Dillard had earned." Amen!

Tim Campbell is a great narrator of this series.

Shocking Development

Good story about a little girl's kidnapping and suspected sexual assault by her father. Very sag. Dillard's wife, Carolyn is dealing with another bout of cancer, and finally a long lost relative appears.

A good one but not the best

To be honest...Scott Pratt is a victim of his own success...
This book was his most "typical" book and even a stretch of a storyline.
Whereas I was blown away by his other books, this one, while good was not memorable.
For most authors a 4star solidly written book would be a win... For Mr Pratt, I'm left a little let down because his other books are so good.
The reasons are a) the storyline was much more typical legal drama with only a little twist at the end. I actually expected a much bigger twist then we got... I won't elaberate due to spoiler.
It was a good book but not memorable like his previous ones. Although some subplots were included they didn't intertwine into the Storey like they normally do. There was much less personal drama with the main character.
Mr Pratt has done such a great job of making the story about Joe Dillard and the case is merely an extension of him, that a story sticky about a case with no progress in Joe Dullards story left me feeling let down about the book.
I'm looking forward to the next one, hoping Scott Pratt gets back in the swing of things.

Little Girl Lost

Mr. Dillard's life is never boring. A little girl is missing and against his better judgement, he is representing the parents. This book is full of twists and turns. As usual, well written and excellent character development.

Interesting

I have been reading this series in order. In this story a six-year old girl is kidnapped and Joe Dillard is on the case. Joe is back working as a defense attorney after a stint as a prosecutor. Over the past issues I have been impressed with Joe’s gentleness and care regarding his wife’s breast cancer. Pratt writes a story that is gripping and hard to put down. If you are looking for a fast paced legal thriller series, give this one a try.

The book is six hours and twenty-two minutes. Tim Campbell does a great job narrating the book. Campbell is an actor and voice-over artist as well as an award-winning audiobook narrator.

I thoughts this was a very good book . The author told the story ,filling in with past enough to keep you remembering, or up to present time. Thank-you.
