Publisher's summary

In the sequel to the #1 New York Times bestseller Confessions of a Murder Suspect, James Patterson keeps the confessions coming breathlessly as Tandy Angel delves deeper into her own dark history.

Wealthy young women are being murdered on Manhattan's exclusive Upper West Side, and the police aren't looking for answers in the right places. Enter Tandy Angel. The first case she cracked was the mystery of her parents' deaths. Now, while she's working to exonerate her brother of his glamorous girlfriend's homicide, she's driven to get involved in the West Side murder spree.
One of the recent victims was a student at Tandy's own elite school. She has a hunch it may be the work of a serial killer, but the NYPD isn't listening to her . . . and Tandy can't ignore the disturbing fact that she perfectly fits the profile of the killer's targets. Can she untangle the mysteries in time? Or will she be the next victim?

WONDERFUL AUTHOR, AND SUPERB STORY LINE

I NOTICED THAT ALL THE OTHER REVIEWS WERE NEGATIVE FOR THIS BOOK. I HAVE COME TO BELIEVE AFTER LISTENING TO THE SECOND BOOK OF THE SERIES, THAT YOU MUST READ THE FIRST; WHICH I HAD DONE A DAY AGO. THE TWO BOOKS WORK SEAMLESSLY TOGETHER. IF YOU TAKE THE SECOND BOOK, OF AND BY ITSELF, YOU REALLY HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THE CHARACTERS HAVE SUFFERED UNDER THEIR PARENTS WHICH IS SPELLED OUT IN DETAIL IN A WONDERFUL MYSTERY. THIS COULD HAVE BEEN PUT INTO ONE BOOK, BUT IT WOULD BE AN OVERWHELMINGLY LARGE ONE. I THINK JAMES AND THE NARRATOR DID AN EXCELLENT JOB AND I REALLY LOVED THE STORY LINE AND FELL IN LOVE WITH THE PROTAGONIST. IT IS A CLEAN, FUNNY AT TIMES, WONDERFUL LIST OF CHARACTERS THAT MAKE UP THE ANGEL FAMILY. PLEASE DO READ "CONFESSIONS OF A MURDER SUSPECT" BEFORE YOU READ "CONFESSIONS: THE PRIVATE SCHOOL MURDERS". THIS REALLY IS A RED HERRING TITLE IN MY OPINION, FOR THEY REALLY ARE NOT IN SCHOOL THAT OFTEN, BUT SCHOOL DOES PLAY A SIGNIFICANT PART OF THE PROTAGONIST FLOWERING RETURN OF HER MEMORY ~~WHICH WAS STOLEN THAT PLAYS OUT OF THE WHYS AND WAYS IT ALL HAPPENED IN "CONFESSIONS OF A MURDER SUSPECT".

JAMES, YOU DID A GREAT JOB IN HOLDING DOWN THE UNTOWARD LANGUAGE AND SEXUAL SITUATIONS, THAT SO HAMPER YOU SINCE YOU STARTED WRITING WITH OTHER AUTHORS. MAXINE, THANK THE LORD, DID A FINE JOB IN KEEPING IT CLEAN SO YOUR KIDS COULD LISTEN TO THIS STORY ON A TRIP AS A FAMILY. KEEP THE SERIES GOING WITH THE ANGEL CHILDREN AS THEY TRULY ARE A REMARKABLE FAMILY.

I more than agree.... it is a very boring book

Would you try another book from James Patterson and Maxine Paetro and/or Emma Galvin?

Yes, their Murder Club books are great.

Has Confessions: The Private School Murders turned you off from other books in this genre?

No

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Emma Galvin?

The narrator was not the problem with this book. It was the book itself.

What character would you cut from Confessions: The Private School Murders?

Don't think that any one character was the problem; it was how the entire book was put together.

Any additional comments?

I was stunned that this book was so bad when the Murder Club books have been so very good.

Worse ... than ... just ... Bad

The first book in this series was terrible ... and I listened to the second only because I had already purchased it before listening to the first book. As bad as "Confessions of a Murder Suspect" was, this one is worse and I will not buy/listen to any other books in this series.

Patterson and Paetro really need to consult with someone who understands how things really work in criminal prosecutions. I made note of some of the most egregious problems with the depiction of the criminal case in this book:

1) The murder trial of Matthew was supposedly going to start after just three months. Virtually impossible in the real world ... it usually takes a year or more to get a murder case to trial.
2) Tandy bringing Matthew news that his alibi was "imploding". This would be done by his lawyer, not his 15 year old sister, because any conversation with a visitor other than a lawyer is NOT confidential and would be recorded by authorities.
3) The trial is described as "starting with" the opening statements. Trials actually start with pretrial motions and motions in limine and then jury selection, which can take days or even a week or more in a murder case. All of this before opening statements are made.
4) Courtrooms in the real world are not "closed" to the public when proceedings commence, so there would be no issue about family members arriving late.
5) The "well" is the space between the judge's bench and counsel tables and does not include the bench itself, the jury box, the witness box or the bailiff's desk. In some courtrooms, the court clerk and reporter's desks are located in the well; in others they are not.
6) No jury would ever be allowed to see the defendant being brought into the courtroom in jail clothes and shackled. In the real world, defendants are dressed out in civilian clothes and are brought into the courtroom before jurors are allowed to enter. They remain in the courtroom until the jurors have left and are only then taken back into the holding cell to be redressed in their jail clothes.
7) Unless they have demonstrated that they are a danger to others in court, defendants are not shackled while in the courtroom, as Matthew is described.
8) I have practiced criminal law for more than 45 years and have personally appeared on thousands of cases, have watched appearances in thousands of others, have completed hundreds of preliminary hearings and about 200 jury trials. In all that time, I have NEVER seen a judge use a gavel. Most judges don't even have one on their benches.

Other issues:

8) Tandy says that she "has been most places" and "speaks most languages". Really? At age 15? Highly doubtful.
9) She also describes Hugo as having "the strength of a full-grown man". Really? At age 10? And almost certainly before he has even reached puberty. Totally unrealistic.
10) Tandy refers to the "murders" of "her parents". Not to give too much away for anyone who hasn't listened to the first book, but Really?

Once again, the main character (Tandy) is totally unrealistic ... and the narration is just awful.

If you haven't purchased this book yet, use your money or credit for something better ... which would be virtually any other book you could choose.
