Excellent story and fantastic narration by Lou Diamond Phillips

This was another great story written by Tom Clancy and Mark Greaney involving spies past and present, CIA, MI6, US versus Russia, etc. Lou had one of the best performances I’d ever heard on an audiobook. Can’t wait to Liston to him again.

Thoroughly enjoyed this book

This will be a short review because there are already so many that say it well. I hesitated to start this book due to a comment from another reviewer that the jumps between timeframes was not well handled and she found herself sometimes lost. I want to assure you that the time frames are well marked prior to the chapter and I didn't find it confusing at all. Don't hesitate, this is a great book!

Exciting!

Pay attention when listening to this one! Lots of action, lots of people, in two different time frames, with the protagonist in both named Jack Ryan! Same bad guys (Russians). Clancy was prescient in 2000 about Russia’s takeover of Crimea in 2014 and invading of eastern Ukraine. I love Lou Diamond Phillips as a narrator—great voices and accents. One little thing—the little gasps before statements took me out of the story often. Can they be edited out?

Language

This book had much more profanity then others- some parts fit the character other parts seemed to be thrown in unnecessarily.

Great Jack Ryan Novel!

If anything, Lou Diamond Phillips makes this shine!!
Although the parallel story line of "present day" and "30 years earlier" is a great blend of classic Jack Ryan and Jack Jr.

Overall, very enjoyable.

Lou Diamond Phillips was outstanding!

This was my first Tom Clancy book. Most people know the story of the Jack Ryan books. This goes back and forth from the past to the "present" and involves both Jack and Jack Jr. That was a decided plus for me.

The reason I'm writing this review, however, has to do with the narrator. He was simply incredible. Most who listen to this genre know there are a handful of narrators who do most of them. Unfortunately, they have unique voices and limited range in terms of their ability to shift to characters. In fact, typically if there are more than 3 characters, it is easy to get them confused just listening. Phillips does not have a unique voice, but he can give each character a unique voice. I was amazed that every character sounded like a distinctive person, separate from the others. I can't say enough about his skills and if I had my way, he'd narrate every fiction book to which I listen.
