Publisher's summary

Devastated by the discovery that his wife, Helen, was murdered, Special Agent Pendergast must have retribution. But revenge is not simple. As he stalks his wife's betrayers - a chase that takes him from the wild moors of Scotland to the bustling streets of New York City and the darkest bayous of Louisiana - he is also forced to dig further into Helen's past. And he is stunned to learn that Helen may have been a collaborator in her own murder.

Peeling back the layers of deception, Pendergast realizes that the conspiracy is deeper, goes back generations, and is more monstrous than he could have ever imagined - and everything he's believed, everything he's trusted, everything he's understood... may be a horrific lie.

Very exciting, but read in order!

After hearing from the other reviewers that this installment resolved nothing and left a big cliff-hanger,.. I decided to wait until right before the next installment was available before listening to this one. I'm glad I did!

We're led on a long, wild chase through forest, bog and city throughout this installment. I was shocked that Pendergast failed so many times during this arc.. I'm just not use to him failing! But, it did make him a bit more human. Even if he is the most inconsiderate man to his friends! Generous, yes, inconsiderate, absolutely!! I felt really sorry for D'Agosta .. and was so proud of him and his loyalty to the friendship, in spite of Pendergast!

My emotions keep taking a thrill-ride in the ups and downs of this series. But once again.. once I started the book, I couldn't put it down until it was done.

Make sure you read this arc in order!

Yes, I'd recommend this book!

Intriguing.

You know he gets out of the worst situation its trying to figure out how that keeps you sitting in the drive way still listening when you get home.

Too Predictable

Too many characters doing dumb things that lead to predictable results. Not quite up to the Penderton level of intelligent sleuthing.

Couldn't stop listening

Would you listen to Cold Vengeance again? Why?

Yes, it was a good story and Rene Auberjonois did a great job reading it

What other book might you compare Cold Vengeance to and why?

I thought it was a stand alone book. There will have to be a sequel because there is a lot of unanswered questions.

What does Rene Auberjonois bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I thought that he had the characters down pat. I could picture the characters and story as if it were a movie. He did a great job. I would listen to other books by him

Pendergast is still trying to unravel his past

Do you think Cold Vengeance needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

The Pendergast series has been fun and over the top, but it has taken a more serious turn and lost something. I really just wanted them to wrap up this story line. I guess this one is part 2 of at least 3. It kind of feels like they may be milking the series by selling several smaller books instead of one longer one. Come on guys please get back to having fun.

Rene Auberjonois Saved the Day and this story.

I love/hate and flip flop on whether Pendergast is any kind of friend to any of the other characters in these books. I don't like Helen, I don't like cliffhangers, but getting to listen to Rene Auberjonois read is a treat. When's the next one? Don't even think about using another narrator I'll be peeved if you do.

Intense follow-up to the previous book.

I wasn't super excited about the previous book, but I still enjoyed it. However, this novel started off with a bang and kept up the suspense. It followed the story of the previous book and continued on with the mystery of Pendergast's wife. Lots of thrilling, exciting moments. I can't wait to start the next book. As always, Rene Auberjonois did an outstanding job narrating! Highly recommend.

Not my favorite Pendergast but good

I've read all the Pendergast books up to this point. I'm a huge fan and will continue to be so. I now understand the reviews. It really is a long book that doesn't close many subplots and leaves you hanging. I'd still recommend listening. It is still a good story and kept me interested the whole time. I really like the reemergence of previous characters. Just know that if you read Fever Dream and you are about to read this one, that you are definitely going to want to listen to Two Graves right after.

Mysterious

I love this series and Agent Pendergast. This book is suspenseful and can't wait for the next book to see what happens and more on the covenant and also Cory.
