Publisher's summary

Devastated by the discovery that his wife, Helen, was murdered, Special Agent Pendergast must have retribution. But revenge is not simple. As he stalks his wife's betrayers - a chase that takes him from the wild moors of Scotland to the bustling streets of New York City and the darkest bayous of Louisiana - he is also forced to dig further into Helen's past. And he is stunned to learn that Helen may have been a collaborator in her own murder.

Peeling back the layers of deception, Pendergast realizes that the conspiracy is deeper, goes back generations, and is more monstrous than he could have ever imagined - and everything he's believed, everything he's trusted, everything he's understood... may be a horrific lie.

Pendergast At His Weakest Is Still Powerful

What did you love best about Cold Vengeance?

I loved the hunt in Scotland for his brother in law. It shows just how obsessed Pendergast can become. He is by far the most interesting detective being written about today. I certainly hope he survives his hunt for Helen's murderers.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Cold Vengeance?

I liked the entire book but found his ability to take on disguises and persevere the most interesting. Who would expect him to break the law the way he does to track down the killers.

Which character – as performed by Rene Auberjonois – was your favorite?

Pendergast. Mr. Auberjonois does a superb job of catching the eccentric nature of the detective.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

It made me want to get to the next book right away so I could see what happened next.

Preston/Child in full Pendergast stride

Just when you thought you knew SA Pendergast and his wife, this literary duo adds more twists to the SA's adult life than a modern polititian. This story fills in some backstory of SA Pendergasts character. Sir A.C. Doyle would be pleased with this level of logical deduction.

Another great Pendergast novel.

I very much enjoyed this audiobook. Great story line and love Pendergast. Had some unexpected twists and turns as they all do. Rene Auberjonois does a fantastic job at narration. I've purchased every one in this series and have enjoyed them all.

Still in love with Pendergast

My dear Vincent. How I loved hearing those words again! Rene Auberjonois is quickly becoming one of my favorite narrators. I can't explain why I enjoy this series so much. Some things I see coming, but others are a complete surprise. This latest installment had me listening to it nearly straight through. Finished it off in less than 2 days. If you've followed the series then like me, you'll still be more than a bit in love with Pendergast!

You must love Pendergast ... what else can I say?

As "usual" this story has so many twists and turns, you will not think you have it figured out soon into the story. Preston and Child truly have a way of keeping Pendergast one terrific but believable character. He is not super man, but he does great things.

You will be on the edge of your seat for many parts of this great story ... enjoy!

Left me wanting more...

I've read or listened to many of the Preston and Child books. This is the first one that left me feeling cheated. This was already a sequel to another book so I was prepared to jump into the story. What I wasn't expecting and didn't appreciate was the way it leaves you hanging at the end. Obviously another book is coming - just didn't need that much of this story line. Two would have been fine, three is one too many. How many more times can the main character be mortally wounded but recover with no ill effects two chapters later. Time to move on.
