Publisher's Summary

Cop-turned-lawyer Stone Barrington, he of street smarts, dry wit, and debonair charm, becomes reacquainted with a case he thought was buried years ago, and must settle romantic entanglements that haunt him still.

Allison Manning, the beautiful and enigmatic woman Stone defended against a murder charge in Dead in the Water, mysteriously reappears to request his help with a set of problems she has never resolved, which involve millions of dollars. She fears, too, that somebody might be stalking her, but she's not sure who - or why. She knows of no one better than Stone, who has both the legal experience and the investigative instincts to guarantee her safety.

Stone is happy to enjoy a few days in Palm Beach - and to have left frigid New York and the tempestuous Dolce Bianchi behind - but before he can dig into this latest case, he comes face to face again with Arrington Calder, the one woman who still holds a key to his affections.

Stone and his partner, Dino, comb the glittering streets of Palm Beach and begin to suspect that more than one person might be after Allison - one so clever he manages never to show his face, but even more frightening, another man everybody has long forgotten.

In a search that ranges from the boardrooms of Manhattan to the sumptuous villas that line the Gold Coast, Stone uncovers the sly and greedy plan to steal millions of dollars - and reveals the crafty killer behind it - in this electrifying thriller.

More mayhem? Listen to all of our Stone Barrington mysteries.

"Good but not great. Easy to listen to Dick Hill"
Is there anything you would change about this book?

    no

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

A client's true nature from a previous book is revealed. I think Stuart Woods books are easy to read or listen to.

Have you listened to any of Dick Hill???s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I always enjoy Dick Hill's reading. I'll buy an audibile book because he is reading it. He make the characters seem very real. He did a great job on this book also.

Was Cold Paradise worth the listening time?

Yes, I love to listen while I do my house work. This book was not a real complicated story with lots of characters coming and going.

    Any additional comments?

I will continue to buy Stuart Woods audible books.

    "Cold Paradise"

I liked the book. However, I really did not like the sex stapped in the middle of the story. If I had wanted a romance novel, I would have selected that section. I wanted a good mystery and the plot was not helped by the little interlude and then it was just dropped and the the female was off and running on something else.

    "Very bad, waste of time"

I really enjoyed most of his other books but this one was disappointing. It had multiple plots that were just boring and predictable.

"Narrator was not as good as the other Stone novels"
Would you try another book from Stuart Woods and/or Dick Hill?

Yes to the author and not to the narrator.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

    It was fine

How could the performance have been better?

The voice was annoying and not as good as the other narrator that SW usually uses.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

Potentially. They should make some movies about Stone Barrington and Dino. Who would play them?

"Dick Hill Makes Most Books Worth Listening"

As I implied with the headline, Dick Hill makes it good enough for a $4.95 sale book. He's a great narrator and, with the exception of one book, I have enjoyed everything he does. I've also liked the Stone Barrington books but sometimes these authors get lazy by giving the protagonist too much money to facilitate his activities in the plot. Yeah, Woods has done it in this book and we all get to see the nice yacht and vicariously associate with a Bill Gates clone. Frankly, I'd rather see a hero who faces a few more challenges like a real lawyer or a real investigator might face than this minor escapism. Because of this "Dallas"-like fantasy land Woods creates, the characters just don't seem to meet up with any reality that I can relate to. Consequently, the book fell short of my expectations.

    "Another good one"

Disappointed that the next one in the series is not on here. If anyone has some pull I'd love to hear it.
