Publisher's summary

William Smithback, a New York Times reporter, and his wife, Nora Kelly, a Museum of Natural History archeologist, are brutally attacked in their apartment on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. Eyewitnesses claim and the security camera confirms the killer seen leaving the building was their strange, sinister neighbor - a man who, by all reports, was already dead.

Captain Hayward leads the official homicide investigation, while Pendergast, D'Agosta, and Nora undertake a private quest for the truth. Their serpentine journey takes them into a part of Manhattan they never imagined could exist: a secretive and deadly hotbed of Obeah, the West Indian Zombii cult of sorcery and magic. And it is here they find their true peril is just beginning.

Not my Favorite Pendergast Adventure

I want to listen to each book in order, but it sounds like Maude is reading it this one and the one before not my favorite narrator!

I am glad this one is done.

Still good but my least favorite of the series

I love this series and can't get enough of Agent Pendergast and the people who surround him but I was not a fan of this particular story. The subject matter, voodoo, and the death of one of my favorite characters was just too dark. And there was only a single humorous passage in the entire novel which is unusual for these authors. So, important to the developing story but not a particularly fun read.

Another great book.

This book probably had the biggest suprise for me on who and why in the series. Also hated to lose a regular character. I love this series. only complaint is I miss the earlier narrators southern LA drawl for Agent Pendergast. This one has none.

deja vu

The Pendergast series has become slightly predictable. Pendergast and D'gosta are trapped in a dark, underground labyrinth and must escape or find a specific person, place or thing. all the while, there is are two large political or socio economic entities causing a riot on the surface that only happened because whomever the poor fool is that they put in charge is in over his head. I hope it's not so predictable from now on.

The Weakest in the Series

I would rate this book as the weakest in the series. Although a decent read, the characters seem to be off. In addition, what did Nora do to deserve her treatment in book? In the end, the plot works out but was somewhat redundant throughout the book.

Sherlock Homes?

If you love Sherlock Homes you will love Agent Pendergrass, the writing is tight and stong. The voices carry you away. Douglas Preston, Lincoln Child are the best.

Not as strong as usual

I got the feeling Preston&Child ran out of time at the end and wrapped up things rather perfunctorily. Still, I enjoy this series and they seem to have set things up for another book. As usual Rene A. does a great job reading.

Love me some Pendergast...

I do love the characters and the general story telling and locales that are employed by Mr. Preston and Mr. Child, but after several books there are several phrases that are beginning to be repetitive and wear on my psyche. These phrases, like "...the work of _ minutes...", "...on well-oiled hinges..", and others, are showing the series to be a bit quickly written. That being said--Please don't stop, gentlemen! I look forward to the cast and characters of this duo, and Cemetary Dance was no exception.

incredible and sad

an incredible Pendergast story as usual but with the sad end of one of the most enigmatic characters in the Pendergast universe.
Rest well, William Smithback, Jr...
