Publisher's summary

Her career in homicide has taken her into the darkest depths of New York City’s underground - and sometimes Lieutenant Eve Dallas feels more comfortable in those kinds of places than in the high-rise, high-society world of her billionaire husband, Roarke. But while she’s no party girl, she’s managing to have a reasonably good time at the celebrity-packed bash celebrating the debut of The Icove Agenda. This time it’s Eve, not Roarke, who’s a guest of honor, since the film is based on one of her famous cases. Her partner, Peabody, is practically giddy over rubbing shoulders with Hollywood royalty. Eve, on the other hand, is more likely to roll her eyes than have stars in them. But she has to admit it’s a little spooky seeing the actress playing her, who looks almost like her long-lost twin. Not as unsettling, though, as seeing K. T. Harris, the actress who plays Peabody - drowned in the lap pool on the roof of the director’s luxury building. Talented but rude, and widely disliked, K.T. had made an embarrassing scene during dinner. She clearly liked being the center of attention. Now she’s at the center of a crime scene - and Eve is more than ready to get out of her high heels and strap on her holster, to step into the role she was born to play: cop.

Crack another case with Eve Dallas.

Just Okay

I am a big Death Series Fan, but this was not one of my favorite of the series. I enjoyed the book, but it was slow and not as interesting as most of her books. It is better than most books I read and listen to, but you have such high hopes for J. D. Robb Death books. As always it was good to have most of the characters show up, but this was not as exciting as the last two. Maybe Nora felt the ride she took us on with the last two books she had to slow things down. The last book was rather intense. I had to take deep breaths several times. That could have made this book feel so slow. The last two books were much more exciting and to come down from such a high did not set well with me.

After each book I can't wait for the next one and to wait so long and come away feeling let down is not a good feeling.

I am never completely disappointed with this series because it is well written and interesting to continue the saga, but this one was a little bit slow and flat. I am impatiently waiting for the next installment.

As usual, the narrator did an exceptional job.

Another Fun 'In Death' read

I could not describe how well I enjoy this narrator. She's great!

The story did have some of the funny side bits and side story, but not as much as I like.

The story itself was what one has come to enjoy and expect of a book in this series.

Good but predictable. . . dare I say reliable?

I love this series, you can count on J.D. Robb to weave an entertaining tale (with the exception of some of the short stories she's written for compilations). The thing is, that it is the same formula everytime. Someone is murdered, Eve has interactions with Morris and D--khead. Mavis and Leonardo and sometimes Bella make a cameo. Trina freaks her out and intimidates her with the girly stuff she doesn't get. She deals with Mira and Roarke about her past, or she has nightmares about her parents. She has an awkward or affectionate moment with Feeney. She has snarky, funny moments with Sommerset, Peabody and McNabb. She uses Nadine to trick the killer. The Candy Thief rears its head. There's rough, needy sex and usually affectionate and loving sex. These books are like my favorite pair of jeans. I know what to expect and love them. They make me happy and I've never felt let down. Susan Ericksen does a fantastic job, as usual.

Eve Dallas is great again

Would you listen to Celebrity in Death again? Why?

Yes, it was a very well written episode and it had a little different twist than normal.

What other book might you compare Celebrity in Death to and why?

Really none of this series is quite like this book.

What about Susan Ericksen???s performance did you like?

This book was more about detective work, outside of the main characters. Even though all of the normal stars were included in the book. None of them were really involved, physically.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Hidden Secrets

AS EXPECTED!!!!

Where does Celebrity in Death rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This was a great book. Whenever you listen to one of these books, you know what to expect, from the narrator to the type of story, what's going to happen, who's going to be in it and how much romance is going to happen! It's predictable but GREAT! Who doesn't like Dallas and Peabody with Rourke....

What did you like best about this story?

I love it when Rourke gets involved and tries to get Dallas to bend the law....

What about Susan Ericksen’s performance did you like?

She does great Rourke....very sexy, kind of disturbing that she's a woman actually!!!

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Absolutely!

Any additional comments?

If you haven't read this series...start at the beginning - there is so much you have to know!!

Peabody appreciation and violence in the film industry

Susan Ericksen, as always, does a great job narrating this In Death book.

Because the death is an actress who looks like Peabody and is playing Peabody in the movie version of the Icove Agenda, the book starts with a bunch of Peabody appeciation. The character Peabody deserves it. She is a dear young woman. Then we have, as always, the deep love between Dallas and Roarke which is a feature appreciate by female readers/listeners of this series. The case in this book, in my opinion, is a good one. No freaky serial killer who kills strangers out of blood lust, but a killer who kills for money and hate, the normal motives for the vast majority of murderers. This means one can approach the case logically, rationally. I am so tired of the fact that so many contemporary mystery novels are about abnormal serial killers. I am starting to avoid, for the most part, borrowing or buying weird serial killer mystery novels. The In Death series has some of those weird killers but not this one, thank goodness, which is why I like this one so much.

Off topic: I wish Robb would allow medical examiner Morris to fall in love again and get married. I get sad all over again whenever he makes his first appearance in each novel. If the author could tie the Morris new love affair with a suspect (innocent of course) in a case or a survivor in a case, so we had another book that featured Morris, that would be nice. Morris could save her, then fall in love.

Celebrity celebrates Eve Dallas once again

I've been a big fan of Nora Roberts writing as J.D. Robb from the very first "In Death" novel.

She's chosen over time to make Eve just a little more vulnerable, just a touch softer in her relationship with Rourke, and has added more more dimension to her characters in this novel.

Eve and her partner Delia have grown and have become much more than just a working relationship.

Another great novel in the best detective series out there. Can't wait for the next one.

When are they going to make these novels into either a TV series or movies?
