Publisher's summary

Detective D. D. Warren has four days to stop a killer in this “shocking…‘must read’”* from #1 New York Times bestselling author Lisa Gardner—one of Library Journal's Best Thrillers of the Year.

Charlene Grant believes she is going to die. For the past few years, her childhood friends have been murdered one by one. Same day. Same time. Now she’s the last of her friends alive, and she’s counting down the final four days of her life until January 21st.

Charlene doesn’t plan on going down without a fight. She has taken up boxing, shooting, and running. She also wants Boston’s top homicide detective, D. D. Warren, to handle the investigation.

But as D. D. delves deeper into the case, she starts to question the woman’s story. Instinct tells her that Charlene may not be in any danger at all. If that’s true, the woman must have a secret—one so terrifying that it alone could be the greatest threat of all.

Another winner for Lisa Gardner

I've been a huge Lisa Gardner fans for years, but this was my first "listen" to one of her books. It won't be the last. Kirsten Potter used exactly the tone and inflections that I hear in my head when I read Gardner's books.

Yes, the books are formulaic, but the individual characters in them are leads I've gotten to know and love, and subjects that I can care about. Their stories find a way to blend current issues (Internet predators this time), sympathetic victims, and a touch of warped criminal mind that keeps me turning pages and wondering whodunnit. I kept going back and forth between 3 different outcomes from the third chapter!

Classic Gardner ! Read It

I love this character D.D. Warren so much. Lisa has given us an intelligent woman that is accepted among her peers. Warren is a lover, mother and committed to her job. As a reader you try to find the killer. You success determines your enjoyment of the book. Well this one had me going. I was bemoaning the fact that I "knew" the killer and did not want that person to be the killer. That is when Lisa, the author, pulled the rug from under my feet and I fell on my butt.

If you are a Gardner fan you must read this. If you are not, you must read this. I down loaded other Gardner novels but do not download, The Third Victim.

Enjoyable plot, characters and narrator

This was my first book listened to which was written by Lisa Gardner. I knew who Detective D.D. Warren was from a t.v. movie that I liked. Having not read any Det. Warren books before, I still gave this one a listen because the synopsis sounded interesting. I wasn't disappointed. I felt I had enough background about Det. Warren to get her personality, without having to rely on what was brought out in other books. I even liked the bad guy. The plot was good and kept me interested throughout the book. The narrator did a good job a portraying the female non-nonsense "cop" voice, but could have used a different approach when speaking in Charlie's first person voice. However, it wasn't distracting and I would listen to another book ready by Kirsten Potter. I would definitely read another Lisa Gardner and specifically another Detective D. D. Warren book.

Lisa Gardner JUST AMAZING!

The only criticism I have about this book was it was hard to tell who was talking because voice was the same and usually Kristen Potter is way better. Other wise this was A GREAT LISTEN!!!!

The best of the series thus far

Really enjoyed this one as there was a more sensitivity and compassion added to the main character and the plot had me totally baffled until the end.

enjoyable read

This was an interesting story. it was suspenseful but a little predictable. The narrator did a good job, you could tell each of the characters apart.

Fantastic twisted and compelling

Couldn’t put this one down. Unusually good plot that flowed perfectly. I could relate well to the two main characters and really enjoyed the ending.

Disappointed

I liked the story but it was guessable. I have not loved Lisa Gardner’s books lately.
