Publisher's summary

Detective D. D. Warren has four days to stop a killer in this “shocking…‘must read’”* from #1 New York Times bestselling author Lisa Gardner—one of Library Journal's Best Thrillers of the Year.

Charlene Grant believes she is going to die. For the past few years, her childhood friends have been murdered one by one. Same day. Same time. Now she’s the last of her friends alive, and she’s counting down the final four days of her life until January 21st.

Charlene doesn’t plan on going down without a fight. She has taken up boxing, shooting, and running. She also wants Boston’s top homicide detective, D. D. Warren, to handle the investigation.

But as D. D. delves deeper into the case, she starts to question the woman’s story. Instinct tells her that Charlene may not be in any danger at all. If that’s true, the woman must have a secret—one so terrifying that it alone could be the greatest threat of all.

Love Detective DD Waren

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I have read all Lisa Gardner books. This book was great and it also gave me bits of information in past charecters from her other books that I wondered what happened to them. The whole time I read this book I thought the killer was someone else and at times I was a little creeped out for the craziness of someones mind but couldn't stop listening to it. I love that Detective DD Waren has become a mom in this book and finally has a life beside Boston PD.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Catch Me?

When you figures out who Charlie's sister is.

Which character – as performed by Kirsten Potter – was your favorite?

Of course Detective DD Waren.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

WE all have to die sometime, Be brave.

Hard to put down

I've read all of Lisa Gardner's novels and LOVE when a new one comes out. She's definitely one of my favorites! D.D. Warren is a hard cop but I've really enjoyed watching her grow into someone you would love to have on your team. I think that Kirsten Potter does such an amazing job portraying her. Whether it's more than one narrator or just her (as in this novel), the performance is always amazing. This book is so worth the price. I honestly couldn't put it down (or for audible terms, turn it off). No words for it other than fabulous!!! I can't wait for Gardner's next novel.

If you are reading the series you may be surprised

I love this series and I love the narrator - Kirsten Potter. This is not her best story line but it is good. I am used to have Kirsten read D.D's character, and another narrator read the sub plot characters - not so in this book. The first time another character comes in, I was distracted by hearing Kirsten's voice read their parts. By the third chapter it was no longer an issue but I do like have two readers. I think because I identify Kirsten's voice with the main character's tough, no "BS" personality, I was not able to pick up the "softer" side of the sub-character(s).

One pleasant surprise was the emergence of D.D's humanity. I like that her life changes have made her more human. More capable of compassion.

I have enjoyed all of her books. I am just hoping this is not the beginning of a round of books that are pushed out to meet deadlines.

I have the book a three star overall because of the skinnier than normal plot that I expect from this author and the narrator reading all the characters. I guess I am spoiled.

Still a good book and a good listen!

Distracting

I enjoy the complicated plots in the DD Warren series. I like the addition of Alec. But the pregnancy and subsequent baby have distracted from DD's personality. Her behavior and thinking are not believable. From strength to gooey. Baby talking to shooting. I will probably discontinue the series and try one stand alone. And Lisa, how can you undo this mistake, SIDs? Unlikely.

Brava to Narrator Kirsten Potter! Good work.

For a complete review of this book, please see GoodReads and/or Amazon, 26 March 2020. The excerpt below specifically refers section to the Audible version of “Catch Me.”

At first, I rated this book 3.5 stars, because the storyline has several implausible events and developments, and I had to push to suspend disbelief at the contrived ending. Furthermore, I didn’t enjoy reading about D.D.’s many domestic situations, which seemed like filler.

After finishing the book, I mulled a bit and then upped my rating to 4 stars, because I loved the Audible version, which is very skillfully narrated by Kirsten Potter. Due to Ms. Potter’s excellent voice-acting, I let the annoying fill material continue to play out, albeit at 1.7-2.0 speed.

Catch Me - Lisa Gardner

This book was ok for me all the way around. The premise was interesting - a woman approaches Detective DD Warren, explaining that she's going to be murdered in a few days, and she wants DD to have all the information she needs to find her killer. The woman, Charlene Rosalind Carter Grant, believes this because her two best friends were murdered the same day, one year apart. That day is fast approaching.

As interesting as it was, that part of the story didn't quite live up to the hype for me. I thought Warren spent too much time trying her best to discredit Charlene, and not enough actually trying to figure out who was trying to kill her. And there were so, so many side plots. Enough that I was having trouble keeping up with who was who and who belonged to which side plot. There was a string of murders she was trying to solve, a child molestation side plot, internet predators, DD's own life as a new mother trying to balance home and work, and another one involving DD trying to get through a visit from her parents; it was a lot for one novel. The narration went back and forth between Charlene's first person chapters and DD's third person. There were occasionally very short chapters which were some sort of instruction in how to kill a person and get away with it, presumably by Charlene's would-be killer.

Kristin Potter did a fine job with the narration. There wasn't anything stand-out about it, either positive or negative. I would certainly not shy away from anything else she narrates.
