It's summertime in Lake Eden, Minnesota, which means picnics aplenty for bakery proprietress and amateur sleuth Hannah. Then Uncle Gus is murdered following a big family reunion, and the only clues to be found at the crime scene are two slices of Hannah's infamous carrot cake.

I have listened to all Hannah Swensen books over and over
Suzanne Toren brings all of the various characters to life.
Joanne Fluke books are all funny and I love all of her characters. Murder that is not messy, and romance that is not trashy.
I loved this story, it was both exciting and romantic. I forget sometimes how Joanne has woven Ross throughout these stories even if just for a minute. Mike and Norman need some shaking up, plus Mike just isn't the man for her. I have read this book plus listened to it twice now and still catch things that I missed.
Story lines are good.
I like that Suzanne changes the voices to differentiate the characters, but wish she would not have some of the other women characters sound like babies. Can't all the grown ups have adult voices?
I love cozy mysteries because you don't have to put a lot into it. They are light and usually pretty amusing. The characters are consistant through out all of her books. My only negative might be that these stories have consistantly "happy" characters who are always willing to go out of their way for others-- nobody ever has a bad day, and Hannah's two love interests never seem to be at odds with each other. If you are looking for something that you can deduce from clues, this book is not for you--just a lighthearted book.
I've enjoyed listening to this mystery solved by Hannah Swenson. Joanne Fluke weaves a tight story.
It is a light, entertaining story peppered with loads of recipes. I've read other books by this author in paperback edition. In those cases I was able to try out the included recipes with little trouble.
What I haven't enjoyed is trying to figure out how to copy a recipe without listening to an entire section of the book again.
I really like this series--I've read a bunch of them! However, the narration isn't very good. I will probably continue to read this series but not listen to because of the narration--very disappointing because I love Audible books!
I really like Joanne Fluke's books This is well read but I didn't like that in the middle of my fourth disk it announced who was reading it some other stuff this is never in the ones you but so I don't know why it was on this download.
