Publisher's summary

Callander Square is the second of Anne Perry's Charlotte and Thomas Pitt mysteries. Full of well-drawn and convincing characters, Callander Square offers a finely crafted recreation of Victorian England. The bodies of two newborn babies have been found in a park in the fashionable London neighborhood of Callander Square. While Inspector Thomas Pitt is fighting to get the square's aristocratic residents to speak with him, his pretty, well-born wife Charlotte decides to do some detective work of her own. Soon she is unearthing secrets in every house on the square while Thomas tries to discover what would drive a person to murder.

Callander Square

I really enjoy the period mysteries and this is one of the best.

Great story, fantastic performance!

Great story, but fantastic performance! Has a voice that believably turns into definable characters with both sound and personality.

Entertaining Mystery

Davina Porter is an excellent narrator who really makes the story come alive.

I like the relationship between the main characters - Charlotte and Thomas Pitt. They are a great married mystery duo. They compliment each other well.

If you are looking for a deep dark murder series this may not be for you. This series is more of a Hallmark Mystery - a light who-dunnit than a tragic film noir.

Good Mystery.

I found Davina Potter to be an excellent reader. I found the overall book to be a tad better than the first book, although parts did seem to drag. I haven't decided if I'd rather listen to the 3rd book or read it, but I will be continuing the series.

Beautiful characterization both written and spoken. you really learn to love these characters and the narration strengthens their identities. The historical aspect of Victorian England is wonderful and vividly drawn. Highly recommend.

Well done

I loved how the mystery involved a whole neighborhood. That gave it a small town feel with all of the individual personalities. Both Charlotte and her sister Emily played key roles in the investigation, although; Thomas still did the bulk of the evidence gathering. I love Emilt, she's a hoot. While Charlotte is less guarded in her speech, Emily is more brazen in her actions. I enjoyed this book immensely.

Wow. What a ride!

I really liked this story. It's a bit hard to keep track of who everyone is, but it still works well as an audio book.

Murder in the Victorian Era

Second book in the series. I'm a fan of Anne Perry's books, having found one of her shorter Christmas stories, and then the "Cater Street Hangman" (first in this series), at the library, No blood & gore, no F-bombs. She likes to explore the interaction between people when there is a murder - not only those who are the immediate family of the deceased, but also the friends and neighbors. How they think and suspect each other. Very interesting. Because her stories are set in this era, we are reminded that the aristocratic wealthy looked "down" upon the servants and the working-class, and she explores these interactions also.
Davina Porter is fantastic!
I plan to continue with this series!

It's not the butler in this period piece.

What did you love best about Callander Square?

I like the historical and cultural setting. And I like that the author does give some clues and that it isn't the "butler who done it."

Enjoyable series, wish books were longer

I really like this author and this series. My only complaint is that the books are to short. The mysteries end rather abruptly. This one wrapped up in a way that was alright however, there was no way of knowing the culprit, the mystery's resolution came out of no where. I really wish the author had built more upon her stories and characters in each of these first 2 books I've listened to. They are very good, just short.
